Key Details 

  • You will be collecting urine, hair, and blood spot samples. 
  • Ship your samples all together, within 48 hours of collection. Samples should be shipped Monday - Thursday only. 
  • The Omega-3 Index blood spot sample should be shipped the same day as collection. 
  • Do NOT collect your urine sample while menstruating
  • You must avoid certain foods and supplements, as well as limit fluid intake, prior to your urine test.
  • Hydrate for a few hours prior to collecting your blood spot sample.
  • Do NOT fill out any information on the website.

Preparation & Timing

Urine Test Preparation

  • Do NOT collect your urine sample while menstruating
  • Avoid the following foods and supplements for 48 hours prior to your urine collection. 
    • Apples (including juice & other apple products)
    • Grapes (including juice & other grape products)
    • Pears (including juice & other pear products)
    • Cranberries (including juice & other cranberry products)
    • Arabinogalactan 
    • Echinacea
    • Reishi mushrooms
    • Ribose supplements 
  • Limit liquid intake starting at 6 pm the night prior to your urine collection. 
  • You will collect your first morning urine

Hair Test Preparation

  • Do NOT use treated hair for your hair collection. 
    • The hair used for your sample should not be dyed, bleached, permed, or otherwise chemically treated. 

Blood Spot Test Preparation

  • If you are taking blood-thinning medications or have a blood-clotting disorder, consult your healthcare provider prior to collecting your blood spot sample.  
  • Hydrate for a few hours prior to collecting your blood spot sample. 
    • It is recommended to drink 16-32 oz of water in the 2-3 hours prior to collection. 
  • Collect your Omega-3 Index blood spot sample the same day you will ship the samples.

Collection Instructions


Urine Collection

These instructions are for the OAT, GPL-TOX, and Glyphosate tests.

  1. Collect your first morning urine in the provided collection cup. 
  2. Screw the collection cup lid on tightly.
  3. Write the patient's name, the date of collection, and the time of collection on the collection cup. 
  4. Freeze the urine specimen and the provided ice pack for at least 4 hours before shipping. 
    1. Keep them in the freezer until ready to ship.

Hair Collection

These instructions are for the Metals Hair test. 

  1. Write the patient's name, the physician's name, and the date of collection on the provided plastic bag. 
  2. Collect only head or pubic hair. DO NOT MIX head and pubic hair.
  3. Set up the provided scale. 
    1. Bend the black tabs down to form a fulcrum.
    2. Place the scale on a level surface
  4. Use stainless steel scissors to cut samples of hair from the back of the head, as close to the scalp as possible. 
    1. If using pubic hair, cut as close to the skin as possible. 
  5. Save only the 1 inch of hair that is closest to the skin. 
    1. Cut off and discard the rest. 
  6. Place the saved hair on the scale. 
  7. Keep cutting and adding hair to the scale until it is filled and tips.
    1. Collect hair from 5 or 6 areas around your head/pubic area. 
  8. Place the hair in the provided plastic bag. 
  9. Repeat steps 3-7 - you should tip the scale twice
  10. Seal the plastic bag.

Blood Spot Collection

These instructions are for the IgG Food Allergy and Omega-3 Index tests.

  1. Write the patient's name and the date of collection on the blood spot collection card(s).
  2. Wash your hands with soap and warm water
  3. Dry your hands with a clean towel. 
  4. Choose the finger you will prick. 
    1. It is recommended to choose your middle or ring finger on your non-dominant hand
  5. Clean your chosen finger with the provided alcohol swab.
  6. Allow your finger to dry. 
  7. Swing your arms and shake your hand to stimulate blood flow. 
  8. Open the lancet by twisting the tab and pulling it straight out.
  9. Place your finger firmly against a hard surface. 
  10. Press the lancet on the side of your fingertip until it clicks. 
  11. Wipe off the first blood drop with the alcohol swab. 
  12. Gently massage the entire length of your finger to form a large, hanging blood drop. 
  13. Touch the tip of the blood drop to one collection circle.
    1. Do NOT touch the collection card with your finger. 
  14. If the collection circle is not filled completely, place additional drops immediately on the same circle. 

  15. Repeat steps 13-14 to fill all collection circles on all of the blood spot cards.
    1. You may have one card with 5 spots and one card with 1 spot. You will need to fill all 6 spots.
  16. If you have trouble getting enough blood, repeat steps 5-14 using the second lancet to complete the final circles. 
  17. Allow the card to dry at room temperature for 3-8 hours.
    1. If you have a single-circle collection card for the Omega-3 test, it only needs to dry 15-20 minutes. 
    2. Do NOT touch or smear the blood spots. 
    3. Do NOT add additional blood. 
    4. Do NOT allow the collection circles to touch other surfaces. 
    5. Keep the card away from direct sunlight and heat. 
  18. As soon as the collection card(s) is dry, fold the flap to cover the collection circles. 
  19. Place the collection card(s) in the provided zip lock bag with the desiccant pack.

Requisition & Payment

  • Your kit has been prepaid. You DO NOT need to pay anything extra.
  • Instructions on how to fill out your requisition can be found HERE.
    • Since you pre-paid for your tests, you do not need to fill in the payment information on any of these forms.
    • Do NOT fill out any information on the website.

  • Ship your samples within 48 hours of collection
  • Ship your samples Monday - Thursday only. 
  • To prepare your samples for shipping, 
    • Place the urine sample into the biohazard zip lock bag with the absorbent packing sheet. 
    • Place the biohazard bag and frozen ice pack into the silver thermo bag. 
    • Place the silver thermo bag into the test kit box.
    • Place the blood spot collection card(s) into the provided plastic zip lock bag(s) with the desiccant pack. 
    • Place the plastic zip lock bags into the test kit box.
    • Place the plastic zip lock bag containing the hair sample into the test kit box.
    • Place the completed test requisition form into the test kit box.
    • Place the test kit box into the provided FedEx Clinical Pak Mailer. 
  • Ship your samples via FedEx.
    • Do not put your samples in a FedEx drop box.
    • You can take your samples to a FedEx location or schedule a FedEx pickup. 
    • To schedule a FedEx pickup, call 1-800-463-3339
      • When the automated greeting begins, say, “Schedule a pickup.”
      • When asked if your label has the word “Stamp” on it, say, “Yes.”
      • Let them know you are shipping using a Billable Stamp.
      • Your tracking number can be found on the Return Label.
  • Make a note of your tracking number (found on the Return Label) so that you can track your sample back to the lab.

  • Results should be released to your provider 7-21 business days after samples are received at the lab. We cannot guarantee processing time. 
  • Your provider will notify you when your results are in and schedule a follow-up appointment for you to review them together. 
  • Your provider may choose to release your results to you. Rupa cannot release your results without provider authorization.
