Key Details 

  • You must avoid certain foods and products for 48-72 hours before collection.
  • If you are a menstruating woman, collect according to the schedule below.
  • Urine must be collected 4 times during the same day (upon waking, 2 hours after waking, before dinner, and before bed).

Preparation & Timing

  • Avoid using the following products for 72 hours before collection.
    • Vaginal hormones
    • Anti-aging/anti-wrinkle creams
  • Avoid the following foods for 48 hours before collection.
    • Bananas
    • Pineapples
    • Nuts
    • Alcohol
    • Protein powders
    • Protein shakes
  • If you take hormone or steroid supplements, consult your healthcare provider regarding appropriate usage and timing of the test.
  • If you are a menstruating woman, collect according to the following schedule.
    • Regular cycles: Collect on Day 19, 20, or 21 of your cycle. 
      • Day 1 = the first day of your period.
    • Irregular cycles: Collect 5 days before your period begins.
    • Unpredictable cycles: Collect any day when not bleeding.
  • Urine must be collected 4 times during the same day at the following times: 
    • Waking (1st morning)
    • 2 hours after waking (2nd morning)
    • Before dinner (evening)
    • Before bed (night)
  • Fast for 2-3 hours prior to each collection.

Collection Instructions

  1. Prior to eating or drinking, collect your first morning urine in the provided urine collection cup. 
  2. Open the BLUE specimen tube.
  3. Use the pipette to transfer the urine from the cup to the specimen tube.
    1. Fill to the top of the tube label.
  4. Recap the specimen tube by pushing down and twisting slightly
  5. Write your name, date of birth, and the date and time of collection on the provided label. 
  6. Place the label on the tube.
  7. Discard any urine remaining in the collection cup.
  8. Rinse the collection cup and pipette thoroughly and dry in a well-ventilated area.
  9. Repeat steps 1-8 for the other three collections. Remember to fast for 2-3 hours before each collection.
    1. COLLECTION 2: 2 hours after waking
      1. YELLOW tube
    2. COLLECTION 3: Evening - before dinner
      1. GREEN tube
    3. COLLECTION 4: Night - before bed
      1. RED tube 
  10. Place all four specimen tubes into the biohazard bag and seal completely.

Requisition & Payment

  • Your kit has been prepaid. You DO NOT need to pay anything extra.
  • Instructions on how to fill out your requisition can be found HERE.
    • Since you pre-paid for your tests, you do not need to fill in the payment information on any of these forms.

  • To prepare your samples for shipping, 
    • Place all four urine samples into the provided biohazard bag. 
    • Seal the bag completely. 
    • Place the completed test requisition form into the back pocket of the biohazard bag. 
    • Place the biohazard bag into the provided return mailer. 
    • Seal the mailer completely. 
  • Make a note of the tracking number on the return mailer so that you can track your sample back to the lab.
  • Ship your samples via FedEx, Monday - Friday only. 
    • DO NOT place your samples in a FedEx drop box. 
    • You can take your samples to a FedEx location or schedule a FedEx pickup by calling 1-800-463-3339.

  • Results should be released to your provider 7-14 days after samples are received at the lab. We cannot guarantee processing time. 
  • Your provider will notify you when your results are in and schedule a follow-up appointment for you to review them together. 
  • Your provider may choose to release your results to you. Rupa cannot release your results without provider authorization.
