Key Details 

  • Collect all of your samples (urine and saliva) on the same day. 
  • Ship your samples via FedEx within 7 days of collection. 
  • If you are a menstruating woman, you must collect on specific days of your cycle.
  • If you are taking hormones, you may need to collect your samples at specific intervals after dosing. 
  • Do not drink alcohol for 12 hours prior to sample collection.
  • Avoid alcohol and strenuous exercise on the day of collection.
  • Avoid caffeine until you have collected your urine sample.

Preparation & Timing

  • If you are a menstruating woman with a:
    • Regular cycle: Collect on Day 19, 20, or 21 (for a 28-day cycle). 
      • Day 1 is the first day of your period.
    • Abnormal cycle: Collect 5-7 days after ovulation. 
  • If you are using topical hormones, hormone troches/lozenges, or sublingual hormones, 
    • Collect your samples at least 24 hours after your last hormone dose.
    • Do not use these hormones the entire day of collection. 
  • If you are taking oral hormones (pills) or using transdermal patches, 
    • You can continue using them as prescribed on the day of collection. 
  • If you are using hormone injections or subcutaneous pellets, 
    • Collect your samples halfway between doses. 
  • The day before collection
    • Avoid alcohol for at least 12 hours prior to the start of sample collection.
  • The day of collection
    • Avoid applying topical hormones.
    • Avoid alcohol.
    • Avoid strenuous exercise.
    • Avoid napping for 90 minutes or longer.
  • Avoid the following activities for at least 1 hour prior to each saliva collection.
    • Eating
    • Chewing gum
    • Smoking
    • Brushing your teeth
    • Drinking anything but water

Collection Instructions

Urine Collection

  1. You will collect your second urination of the day. 
  2. Collect a midstream sample of urine in the provided collection container. 
  3. Open the urine collection tube. 
    1. DO NOT rinse the tube or remove the stabilizer material (the liquid drops or the small cotton ball).   
  4. Using the plastic pipette, transfer urine into the tube. 
    1. The tube should be half-full. 
  5. Close the tube tightly. 
  6. Dispose of the collection container, pipette, and any leftover urine. 
  7. Invert the tube several times to mix the stabilizer and your urine. 
  8. Place the tube in the freezer immediately.
    1. The sample should be frozen for a minimum of 4 hours prior to shipping.

Saliva Collection

  1. You will collect four saliva collections throughout the day. 
    1. Collection 1 - GREEN tube
      1. 1 hour after waking
    2. Collection 2 - RED tube
      1. Before lunch
      2. Collection 2 must be 4-5 hours after Collection 1.
    3. Collection 3 - YELLOW tube
      1. Before dinner
      2. Collection 3 must be 4-5 hours after Collection 2.
    4. Collection 4 - BLUE tube
      1. Before bed
      2. Collection 4 must be 4-5 hours after Collection 3.
  2. Rinse your mouth with warm water. 
  3. Wait 10 minutes before starting your collection. 
  4. Open the appropriate tube (see the schedule and tube colors above). 
  5. Pool saliva in your mouth. 
    1. If you have trouble producing saliva, try
      1. Thinking about your favorite food.
      2. Yawning. 
      3. Smelling lemons or lemon juice. 
  6. Carefully spit saliva into the tube. 
  7. Fill the tube to the fill line (not including bubbles). 
    1. The liquid part of your sample should reach the fill line.
  8. Close the tube tightly.
  9. Place the tube in the freezer immediately. 
    1. The sample should be frozen for a minimum of 4 hours prior to shipping.
  10. Repeat steps 2-10 for each of the four saliva collections.

Requisition & Payment

  • Your kit has been prepaid. You DO NOT need to pay anything extra.
  • Instructions on how to fill out your requisition can be found HERE.
    • Since you pre-paid for your tests, you do not need to fill in the payment information on any of these forms.

Shipping

  • Samples should be shipped within 7 days of collection. 
  • To prepare your samples for shipping, 
    • Place the completed test requisition form into the outside compartment of the specimen bag. 
    • Place the urine sample tube into the specimen bag.
      • Do not remove the absorbent sheet. 
    • Place the four saliva sample tubes into the specimen bag.
    • Seal the specimen bag. 
    • Place the specimen bag into the white shipping box. 
      • Do not include any ice packs. 
    • Seal the white shipping box. 
    • Place the prepaid shipping label on the box. 
  • Make a note of the tracking number so that you can track your samples back to the lab. 
  • You can take your samples to the nearest FedEx location for them to be shipped back to the lab.

Results

  • Results should be released to your provider 7-10 business days after samples are received at the lab. We cannot guarantee processing time. 
  • Your provider will notify you when your results are in and schedule a follow-up appointment for you to review them together.
