Key Details 

  • Do not collect samples while menstruating. 
  • Wait 14 days after a colonoscopy to collect your sample.
  • You must avoid certain medications prior to testing.
  • If you are taking laxatives or probiotics, consult your healthcare provider regarding the timing of this test.
  • Do not drink more than 8 oz water 1 hour prior to urine collection. 
  • Use FedEx to ship samples back to the lab as soon as possible, Monday - Friday only.
  • You must fill out the Testing Release Form and return it with your samples.

Preparation & Timing

  • You will collect two samples: a urine sample and a stool sample. 
  • Do not collect samples while menstruating. 

Urine Test Preparation

  • Fasting is not required. However, fasting for 12 hours may increase the excretion of mycotoxins. 
    • Please consult your healthcare practitioner prior to fasting. 
  • Do not drink more than 8 oz water 1 hour prior to urine collection.

Stool Test Preparation

  • If you have recently had a colonoscopy, wait at least 14 days after your colonoscopy to collect your sample.
  • If you are taking antibiotics or antimicrobials, complete the medication course and wait 2-4 weeks to collect your sample. 
  • If you have taken a rectal suppository, wait 2-3 days to collect your sample.
  • If you are taking a proton pump inhibitor, wait 5-14 days after your last dosage to collect your sample. 
  • Avoid the following medications for 2-3 days prior to testing:
    • Aspirin
    • Anti-inflammatories
    • Antacids
    • Bentonite clay
    • Betaine HCL
    • Digestive enzymes
  • If you are taking laxatives or probiotics, consult your healthcare provider regarding the timing of this test.

Collection Instructions

Urine Collection

  1. Collect your first morning urine into the provided collection cup. 
    1. It is preferred to collect your sample prior to eating or drinking.
    2. If you must drink something, drink less than 8 oz water. 
  2. Open the specimen tube. 
  3. Use the pipette to transfer urine from the collection cup to the specimen tube. 
    1. Fill to the top of the tube label.
  4. Recap the specimen tube tightly by pushing down and twisting slightly. 
  5. Discard remaining urine and the collection cup. 
  6. Write your name, date of birth, and the date and time of collection on the tube label.
  7. Place the specimen tube into the biohazard bag and seal. 
  8. Please be sure to fill out the Testing Release Form (you can find this paper in the same place as your requisition form).

Stool Collection

  1. Write your name, date of birth, and the date and time of sample collection on each tube. 
  2. Put on the disposable gloves. 
  3. Open the sampling sheet.
  4. Remove the protective covering from the tape on the sampling sheet.
  5. Adhere the sampling sheet to the toilet seat as shown.
    1. Do NOT let the sheet touch the water. 
  6. Collect stool on the sampling sheet. 
    1. Do NOT let stool touch water or urine. 
  7. Use the provided scoop to add stool to each sample tube. 
    1. Do NOT touch or dispose of the liquid in the tubes.
    2. Fill to the fill line. Do NOT overfill. 
  8. Recap each tube tightly. 
  9. Flush both the sampling sheet and excess stool down the toilet. 
  10. Place the sample tubes into the biohazard bag with the absorbent material. 
  11. Place the biohazard bag into the refrigerator until shipping. 
  12. Remove the disposable gloves. 
  13. Wash your hands to prevent contamination.
  14. Please be sure to fill out the Testing Release Form (you can find this paper in the same place as your requisition form).

Requisition & Payment

  • Your kit has been prepaid. You do NOT need to pay anything extra.
  • Instructions on how to fill out your requisition can be found HERE.
    • Since you pre-paid for your tests, you do not need to fill in the payment information on any of these forms. 
    • You must fill out the Testing Release Form (you can find this paper in the same place as your requisition form) and return it with your samples

Shipping

  • To prepare your samples for shipping, 
    • Place the urine specimen tube into one biohazard bag.
    • Place the stool specimen tubes into the other biohazard bag.
      • Keep in the refrigerator until shipping. 
    • Place the completed requisition form into the back pocket of one biohazard bag.
    • Place the biohazard bags into the provided return bubble mailer.
  • Make a note of the tracking number on the included return label so that you can track your samples back to the lab.
  • Return via FedEx as soon as possible, Monday - Friday only.
    • You can take your samples to the nearest FedEx location. 
    • You can also visit www.fedex.com or call 1-800-463-3339 to schedule a pickup of your samples.
    • DO NOT place your samples in a FedEx drop box.

Results

  • Results should be released to your provider 7-14 days after samples are received at the lab. We cannot guarantee processing time. 
  • Your provider will notify you when your results are in and schedule a follow-up appointment for you to review them together. 
  • Your provider may choose to release your results to you. Rupa cannot release your results without provider authorization.
