The Environmental Mold and Mycotoxin Assay (EMMA) uses a dust sample to identify 10 of the most toxigenic molds and 16 harmful mycotoxins they produce.

  • No special preparation is required.


Collection Instructions

  1. Put on a pair of latex gloves to prevent contamination.

  2. You may collect up to 3 samples.

    1. Please record the number of samples you are sending to the lab on the Chain of Custody form.

  3. You can choose to collect any of the sample options listed below.

    1. Visible mold:

      1. Collect a sample of the mold using the provided swab or gauze.

      2. Place the swab into the provided biohazard bag.

    2. Dust from air conditioner filters:

      1. Collect 1-3 grams of dust (about the size of a cotton ball).

      2. Place the dust into the provided biohazard bag or a clean ziplock bag.

    3. Dust from vents:

      1. Dampen the provided cotton swab or gauze with tap water.

      2. Rub the swab or gauze over the vent several times.

      3. You should collect 1-3 grams of dust (about the size of a cotton ball).

      4. Place the swab or gauze into the provided biohazard bag or a clean ziplock bag.

  4. Complete the Chain of Custody form.


Requisition & Payment

  • Your kit has been prepaid. You DO NOT need to pay anything extra.

  • Complete the Chain of Custody form that came with your kit.

    • Since you pre-paid for your tests, you do not need to fill in the payment information on this form.


Shipping

  • To prepare your sample for shipping,

    • Place the sample bag(s) into the provided shipping envelope.

    • Place the completed test forms into the provided shipping envelope.

    • Seal the shipping envelope securely.

  • Make a note of the tracking number on the return label so you can track your sample back to the lab.

  • Take your sample package to the nearest FedEx location.

  • DO NOT place your sample in a drop box.


Results

  • Results should be released to your provider 7-10 business days after samples are received at the lab. Rupa Health cannot guarantee processing time.
