The Whole Blood Nutrient Profile provides a comprehensive assessment of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, fatty acids, and amino acids. These instructions also cover the Whole Blood Omega Fatty Acids add-on panel, which measures the levels of seven fatty acids in the blood.

Key Details

  • If you are currently taking (or have recently taken) certain immunomodulating medications, consult your healthcare provider regarding the timing of collection.

  • Ship samples via FedEx within 12 HOURS of sample collection.

Preparation & Timing

  • If you are currently taking (or have recently taken) any of the following medications, consult your healthcare provider regarding the timing of collection.

    • Steroids

    • Immunosuppressive medications

    • Biologic agents

    • Other immunomodulating medications

  • Drink a glass of water 30 minutes prior to collecting your sample.

  • Take a warm shower before collecting your sample.

    • This will help stimulate blood flow and make your collection easier.

Collection Instructions

  1. Wash your hands with warm (not hot) water.

  2. Dry your hands with a clean towel.

  3. Let your arms hang at your side for 15-20 seconds. Move your arms back and forth several times.

    1. This helps to stimulate blood flow.

  4. Choose a finger on your non-dominant hand to poke.

    1. It is recommended that you use your middle or ring finger.

  5. Rub your finger from base to tip.

    1. This helps to stimulate blood flow.

  6. Wipe the whole tip of your chosen finger with the alcohol wipe.

  7. Pull the cap off of the sample tube.

  8. Open the lancet by twisting the cap off.

  9. Turn your palm up and press the lancet into the SIDE of your chosen fingertip until you hear a CLICK.

    1. You can choose either the left or the right side of your fingertip.

    2. DO NOT prick the pad of your fingertip.

  10. Wipe the first drop of blood away with the gauze pad.

  11. Gently rub your finger from base to tip to encourage a blood drop to form.

  12. Allow a blood drop to form.

  13. Lightly tap the blood drop against the inside of the tube.

  14. Repeat steps 11-13 until the blood reaches the top line on the side of the tube.

    1. If blood flow stops, go back to step 4 and use another lancet to prick a different finger.

  15. Once you have correctly filled the tube, use a gauze pad to wipe the blood off your finger and apply pressure.

  16. Bandage your finger.

  17. Tightly close the cap of the microtube.

    1. You should hear a CLICK when it is properly closed.

  18. Turn the tube upside down 10 times to mix the sample.

    1. THIS IS IMPORTANT! Failure to mix the sample may result in a recollection.

  19. Write the following information on the provided label.

    1. Sample collection time

    2. Sample collection date

  20. Place the label on the tube.

  21. Place the sample tube into the biohazard bag along with the absorbent pad.

  22. Seal the bag completely.

  23. Place the biohazard bag into the small box.

  24. Place the box into the return envelope.

Requisition & Payment

  • Your kit has been prepaid. You DO NOT need to pay anything

  • Instructions on how to fill out your requisition can be found HERE.

    • Since you pre-paid for your tests, you do not need to fill in the payment information on any of these forms.

Shipping

  • Ship your sample WITHIN 12 HOURS of sample collection.

    • Failure to promptly ship your sample may result in a recollection.

  • Ship your sample using the provided materials.

    • Place the sample tube into the biohazard bag along with the absorbent pad.

    • Seal the bag completely.

    • Place the biohazard bag into the small box.

    • Place the small box into the provided return envelope.

    • Seal the return envelope.

  • Make a note of the tracking number on the included return label so that you can track your samples back to the lab.

  • Ship your sample via FedEx.

Results

  • Results should be released to your provider 7-14 days after samples are received at the lab. We cannot guarantee processing time.

  • Your provider will notify you when your results are in and schedule a follow-up appointment for you to review them together.
