Access Medical Labs’ blood panels can include any combination of biomarkers chosen for you by your practitioner.

Preparation & Timing

  • Sample collection must be performed by a phlebotomist, Monday - Thursday only.

    • DO NOT DRAW OR SHIP YOUR SAMPLES ON FRIDAY.

    • You CANNOT get your blood drawn at Labcorp or Quest.

  • Hydrate before your blood draw.

Some tests require special preparation, such as fasting, avoiding medications, or avoiding foods.

  • If an ice pack comes with your kit, freeze it overnight before your blood draw.

    • Not all tests require an ice pack to be sent with the samples.

  • Some tests must be shipped on dry ice.

    • Please reach out to the phlebotomist to see if they will provide dry ice or if you need to provide it.

    • Access will provide you with a styrofoam cooler for the dry ice sample.

    • You can find the nearest dry ice distributor HERE.

    • Tests required to be shipped on dry ice:

      • Adrenocorticotropic Hormone (ACTH)

      • Antidiuretic Hormone

      • Antidiuretic Hormone Profile

      • BNP

      • Collagen Type I C-Telopeptide (CTx)

      • D-Dimer

      • Fibrinogen*

        • *Can be shipped on ice packs if it will arrive at the lab within 48 hours.

      • Fibrinogen Antigen

      • Gastrin

      • Hypercoagulability Profile

      • Melanocyte-Stimulating Hormone (MSH)

      • Osteocalcin

      • PT w/ INR

      • PTT

      • TGF-b1

      • TNF-a

      • Vasoactive Intestinal Polypeptide (VIP)

      • Vitamin B5

      • Vitamin C

  • If you have other Access Medical Labs tests (urine, stool, or saliva) in addition to your blood draw,

    • Collect these samples before your blood draw.

    • Bring them with you to your blood draw appointment.

    • Your samples should be shipped together.


Collection Instructions

  1. Read this article to prepare for your blood draw.

  2. Schedule your blood draw.

    1. You must get your blood drawn MONDAY - THURSDAY ONLY.

    2. DO NOT DRAW OR SHIP YOUR SAMPLES ON FRIDAY.

    3. You CANNOT get your blood drawn at Labcorp or Quest.

  3. Complete your test requisition.

  4. Bring the following items with you to your blood draw.

    1. Test kit

    2. Frozen ice pack (if provided)

    3. Dry ice & styrofoam cooler (if required)

    4. Completed test requisition form

    5. Any other Access Medical Labs test samples (urine, stool, or saliva)

  5. The phlebotomist will collect your sample following the directions included in the test kit.

    1. To prevent sample recollection, please ensure all required tubes are included in the collection materials, clearly labeled, and shipped back with your samples.

    2. If your samples are not properly labeled, you will be required to recollect your sample.

Collection Notes

  • For the Comprehensive Metabolic Panel, the phlebotomist should separate the serum after centrifugation and send it in a separate tube. This will prevent specimen issues and recollections.

  • The following tests must be sent on dry ice. Access will provide you with a styrofoam cooler to use to ship back your sample with dry ice.

  • There is currently a shortage of NMR Tubes. The NMR LipoProfile can be collected in a lavender-top tube. The sample should be centrifuged immediately and shipped with frozen cool packs in a screw-capped transport tube.


Requisition & Payment

  • Your kit has been prepaid. You may need to pay a separate fee for phlebotomy.

  • You must complete your requisition form and send it back with your samples.

    • Since you pre-paid for your tests, you do not need to fill in the payment information on this form.


Shipping

  • Make a note of the tracking number on the return mailer so that you can track your samples back to the lab.

  • The phlebotomist will prepare and ship your sample for you using the packing materials included in the test kit.

    • If your samples are not properly labeled, you will be required to recollect your sample.

  • Some tests must be shipped on dry ice (see the list above).

    • Access will provide you with a styrofoam cooler to use to ship back your sample with dry ice.

    • Please reach out to the phlebotomist to see if they will provide dry ice or if you need to provide it.

  • All of your Access Medical Labs samples will be shipped together (blood, urine, stool, saliva).

  • Samples must be drawn and shipped Monday - Thursday, BEFORE 5 PM. DO NOT DRAW OR SHIP YOUR SAMPLES ON FRIDAY.


Results

  • Results should be released to your provider 1-6 business days after samples are received at the lab. Rupa Health cannot guarantee processing time.
