Key Details 

  • You can continue taking all of your nutritional supplements.
  • Decrease your fluid intake 24 hours prior to collection.
    • Adults should drink no more than 3 eight-ounce glasses of fluids during the 24 hours prior to collection.
  • Do not collect while menstruating.
  • Ship your samples within 24 hours of collection, Monday - Thursday only.
  • Ship your samples using FedEx. 
    • Do NOT place your samples in a FedEx drop box.

Preparation & Timing

Collection Instructions

  1. Use a permanent marker to write the patient's first and last name, date of birth, gender, and the date of collection on the test requisition form and on the clear-cap vial.
  2. Empty your bladder before going to bed at night. 
    1. Do NOT collect this urine.
  3. If you wake during the night, collect your urine into a clean container (not provided). 
  4. Immediately upon waking in the morning, collect your urine into a clean container (not provided).
    1. If you collected during the night, you can use the same container OR you can collect in a separate container and mix both collections together. 
  5. Open the clear-cap vial.
    1. Do NOT touch or discard the preservative in the vial. 
  6. Use a pipette to transfer urine into the vial until you reach the 12 mL mark.
    1. Do NOT overfill the vial.
  7. Screw the cap on the vial tightly. 
  8. Dispose of the remaining urine. 
  9. Freeze the clear-cap vial and the ice pack. 
    1. Leave the sample in the freezer until ready to ship.
  10. To ship, place the frozen sample vial, the frozen ice pack, and the absorbent pad into the biohazard bag.
  11. Place the test requisition form into the pocket of the biohazard bag.
  12. Seal the biohazard bag and place it into the test kit box.

Requisition & Payment

  • Your kit has been prepaid. You DO NOT need to pay anything extra.
  • Instructions on how to fill out your requisition can be found HERE for insurance pay and HERE for cash pay.
    • Since you pre-paid for your tests, you do not need to fill in the payment information on any of these forms.

Shipping

  • Ship your samples within 24 hours of collection, Monday - Thursday only.
  • Ship your samples using FedEx. 
    • To schedule a FedEx pickup for your samples, call FedEx at 1-800-463-3339 or visit their website at www.fedex.com.
    • Do NOT place your samples in a FedEx drop box. 
  • To prepare your samples for shipping, 
    • Place the sample vial, the frozen ice pack, and the absorbent pad into the biohazard bag.
    • Place the test requisition form into the pocket of the biohazard bag.
    • Seal the biohazard bag.
    • Place the biohazard bag into the test kit box.
    • Place the test kit box into the FedEx mailer and seal.
    • Make a note of the tracking number on the label so that you can track your samples back to the lab.

Results

  • Results should be released to your provider 7-21 business days after samples are received at the lab. We cannot guarantee processing time. 
  • Your provider will notify you when your results are in and schedule a follow-up appointment for you to review them together. 
  • Your provider may choose to release your results to you. Rupa cannot release your results without provider authorization.
