The CV Health Plus Genomics™ test measures various lipid biomarkers and genomics risk factors to assess a patient's risk of cardiovascular disease.

Key Details

  • Blood sample collection must be performed by a phlebotomist Monday - Thursday only.

    • Information about scheduling a blood draw can be found HERE.

    • You may need to pay a separate fee for phlebotomy.

  • Collect your swab samples the morning of your blood draw.

  • Collect your swab samples immediately upon waking.

  • Avoid drinking alcohol for at least 24 hours prior to sample collection.

  • Avoid exercise for at least 12 hours prior to sample collection.

  • Fast overnight (at least 12 hours) prior to sample collection.

  • Freeze the provided freezer brick for at least 8 hours prior to your blood draw. Bring it to your blood draw.

  • The phlebotomist will collect, prepare, and ship your sample for you.

Preparation & Timing

  • Collect your swab samples the morning of your blood draw.

  • Blood sample collection must be performed by a phlebotomist Monday - Thursday only.

  • If you take aspirin or cholesterol-lowering drugs, consult your healthcare practitioner prior to sample collection.

  • If you are taking S-adenosyl-methionine, methotrexate, carbamazepine, phenytoin, nitrous oxide, anti-convulsants, or 6-azauridine triacetates, your homocysteine results may be inaccurate.

  • Avoid drinking alcohol for at least 24 hours prior to sample collection.

  • The night before sample collection,

    • Avoid exercise for at least 12 hours prior to sample collection.

    • Fast overnight (at least 12 hours) prior to sample collection.

    • Freeze the provided freezer brick for at least 8 hours prior to your blood draw appointment.

    • Do not use mouthwash the night before sample collection.

  • Collect your swab samples immediately upon waking.

    • Do not eat, drink anything but water, brush your teeth, floss your teeth, chew gum, use tobacco, or use coffee products before collecting your swab sample.

Collection Instructions

Swab Collection

  1. Do not eat, brush your teeth, or drink anything but water prior to collecting your samples.

  2. Thoroughly wash your hands with soap and warm water.

  3. Dry your hands with a clean towel.

  4. Gently peel open the package labeled "Sterile Cotton Tipped Applicator."

    1. Keep the package intact.

    2. Only peel it open enough to remove the applicator.

  5. Remove ONE cotton swab applicator.

    1. Do NOT touch the cotton tip.

  6. Open your mouth widely.

  7. Insert the cotton tip of the swab applicator.

  8. Aggressively scrape the inside of your cheek for at least 30 seconds.

    1. Use a back and forth, up and down motion.

    2. Rotate the applicator several times.

    3. Swab between the cheek and gums.

    4. Avoid excessive saliva.

  9. Repeat steps 5-8 with the second swab.

  10. Allow the swabs to air dry for 15-20 minutes.

    1. Do NOT let the cotton tip touch any surface or your hands.

  11. Once the swabs have dried, place them back into the applicator package, swab first.

  12. Write the patient's name and birthdate on the label and place it on the envelope.

  13. Insert the swab applicator package into the provided envelope and seal.

  14. Place the envelope containing the swabs in the collection box and bring it to your blood draw.

Blood Collection

  1. Freeze the provided freezer brick for at least 8 hours prior to your blood draw.

  2. Bring the entire test kit, frozen freezer brick, saliva samples, and completed test requisition form with you to your blood draw appointment.

  3. Your blood draw can only be done and shipped Monday - Thursday.

  4. The phlebotomist will collect, prepare, and ship your sample for you.

Requisition & Payment

  • Your kit has been prepaid. You may need to pay a separate fee for phlebotomy.

  • Instructions on how to fill out your requisition can be found HERE (insurance pay) and HERE (cash pay).

    • Since you pre-paid for your tests, you do not need to fill in the payment information on any of these forms.

Shipping

  • The phlebotomist will ship your sample for you using the materials provided in the test kit.

Results

  • Results should be released to your provider 7-21 business days after samples are received at the lab. We cannot guarantee processing time.

  • Your provider will notify you when your results are in and schedule a follow-up appointment for you to review them together.

  • Your provider may choose to release your results to you. Rupa cannot release your results without provider authorization.
