Key Details
- Do not collect while menstruating.
- Avoid certain supplements and products for 48 hours prior to sample collection.
- Avoid seafood for 48 hours prior to sample collection.
- Rupa Health recommends shipping Monday - Thursday only to avoid shipment delays.
- DO NOT NOT register your test online with Genova.
Preparation & Timing
- Do not collect while menstruating.
- Avoid supplements containing the following products for 48 hours prior to sample collection.
- Creatinine
- Vitamin C
- Any mineral elements measured on this test
- Do not discontinue any medications or supplements prior to consulting with your healthcare practitioner.
- Avoid any substance that may influence urinary element excretion of elements for 48 hours prior to sample collection.
- Avoid seafood for 48 hours prior to sample collection.
Collection Instructions
- This is a timed collection. Your practitioner will tell you the duration of your collection.
- You should collect at least 120 mL (4 oz) during your collection.
- Collect urine in the provided collection cup.
- Pour the urine from the collection cup into the large orange jug.
- Place the lid back on the collection cup.
- DO NOT rinse or wipe out the cup in between collections.
- Place the cap back on the jug.
- Place the orange jug in the refrigerator.
- Repeat steps 2-6 each time you urinate during your collection period.
- Once the collection period is over, you will measure the urine you collected.
- If you only used one jug,
- Set the jug on a level surface.
- Use the milliliter marks on the jug to read the total volume collected.
- Write this total on the test requisition form.
- Tighten the lid.
- Invert the jug repeatedly for 30 seconds.
- If you used two jugs,
- Put on the disposable gloves.
- Mix the urine by pouring back and forth between the jugs.
- Set the jugs on a level surface.
- Use the millimeter marks on the jugs to read the total volume collected in each jug.
- Write the total amount of urine (jug 1 + jug 2) on the test requisition form).
- If you only used one jug,
- Use the pipette to transfer urine to fill both sample tubes.
- If you have urine in two jugs, you can just choose one to use to fill the tubes.
- Cap the tubes.
- Discard any remaining urine and all of the collection materials.
- Write the following information on the specimen collection tubes and the test requisition form.
- Your name
- Your gender
- The date of collection
- The total urine volume (in mL)
- Place the tubes in the biohazard bag.
- Refrigerate the samples until you are ready to ship.
Requisition & Payment
- Your kit has been prepaid. You DO NOT need to pay anything extra.
- Instructions on how to fill out your requisition can be found HERE (insurance pay) and HERE (cash pay).
- Since you pre-paid for your tests, you do not need to fill in the payment information on any of these forms.
- DO NOT register your test online with Genova.
Shipping
- Ship samples as soon as possible after collection.
- Rupa Health recommends shipping Monday - Thursday only to avoid shipment delays.
- Samples should be refrigerated until shipped.
- To prepare your samples for shipping,
- Place specimen tubes into the biohazard bag with the absorbent pad.
- Place the completed test requisition form into the side pocket of the biohazard bag.
- Place the biohazard bag into the test kit box.
- Place the test kit box into the provided return mailer.
- Make a note of the tracking number so that you can track your samples back to the lab.
- Ship your samples via FedEx.
- You can take your samples to the nearest FedEx location.
- DO NOT place your samples in a drop box.
- You can also schedule a FedEx pickup by calling 1-800-463-3339 or visiting their website www.fedex.com.
Results
- Results should be released to your provider 7-21 business days after samples are received at the lab. We cannot guarantee processing time.
- Your provider will notify you when your results are in and schedule a follow-up appointment for you to review them together.
- Your provider may choose to release your results to you. Rupa cannot release your results without provider authorization.
