The Estrogen Metabolism Assessment™ is a targeted hormone assessment that measures several select hydroxyestrogens to evaluate estrogen metabolism.

Key Details

  • If you have a kidney disorder, DO NOT take this test.

  • Certain medications may affect test results (see list below).

  • DO NOT collect your sample while you have a UTI.

  • You must collect this sample on specific days of your cycle.

  • Ship your samples within 24 hours of collection.

  • Rupa Health recommends shipping Monday - Thursday only to avoid shipment delays.

Preparation & Timing

  • DO NOT take this test if you have a kidney disorder.

  • If you have abnormal kidney function, your test results may be affected.

  • If you take any of the following medications, consult your healthcare provider prior to taking this test. These medications may affect test results.

    • Diuretics

    • Bactrim

    • Tagamet

    • Tamoxifen

    • Contraceptives

    • Antibiotics

    • Hormone-replacement therapies

    • Herbal supplements

    • Nutritional supplements

    • Any other hormone-modifying substance

    • Do NOT discontinue prescription medications without consulting your healthcare provider.

  • DO NOT collect this sample while you have a UTI.

  • You must collect this sample on specific days of your cycle.

    • Premenopausal women: Collect between Day 19 and Day 25 of your cycle.

      • Note: Day 1 is the first day of your period.

    • Menopausal women: Collect any day.

    • Women on HRT: Collect 8-10 hours after your last dose of hormone-containing medication.

    • If this is a follow-up test, you must collect your sample on the same day of your cycle, or the same phase of hormone therapy, as you did previously.

  • Freeze the provided freezer brick for at least 8 hours prior to shipping your sample.

Collection Instructions

  1. Write the following information on the tube labels.

    1. Your first and last name - Please ensure that the name on the label matches the name on your Rupa order EXACTLY. If it does not match, you may need to recollect your samples.

    2. The time of collection

    3. The date of collection

  2. Affix the labels to the tubes.

  3. Place the freezer pack in the freezer overnight.

  4. If you wake to urinate during the night (within 6 hours of waking), collect this urine in the provided collection container.

    1. Place the collection cup in the refrigerator.

  5. Collect your first morning urine in the provided collection container.

    1. You will use the same collection container you used at night.

  6. Open the two sample tubes.

    1. DO NOT touch or discard any preservative in the tubes.

  7. Pipette urine into each of the collection tubes.

    1. Fill each tube until it is nearly full.

  8. Screw the tops on the tubes tightly.

  9. Shake the tubes.

  10. Dispose of the pipette, collection cup, and any remaining urine.

  11. Place the tubes in the biohazard bag.

  12. Place the tubes in the freezer for at least 2 hours.

    1. The tubes and ice pack should remain in the freezer until you are ready to ship your samples.

    2. NOTE: If you are in Alaska or Hawaii, Genova recommends shipping with dry ice to ensure your samples arrive frozen, as overnight shipping is not guaranteed due to the distance. If your samples do not arrive frozen, you may need to recollect. Please note on your activation card if you use dry ice.

  13. Complete the test registration (instructions HERE).

    1. Please ensure that the name on the registration matches the name on your Rupa order EXACTLY. If it does not match, you may need to recollect your samples.

Requisition & Payment

  • Your kit has been prepaid. You DO NOT need to pay anything extra.

  • Instructions on how to complete your test registration can be found HERE.

    • Since you pre-paid for your tests, you do not need to fill in the payment information on this form.

Shipping

  • Ship your samples within 24 hours of collection.

  • Rupa Health recommends shipping Monday - Thursday only to avoid shipment delays.

  • NOTE: If you are in Alaska or Hawaii, Genova recommends shipping with dry ice to ensure your samples arrive frozen, as overnight shipping is not guaranteed due to the distance. If your samples do not arrive frozen, you may need to recollect. Please note on your activation card if you use dry ice.

  • To prepare your samples for shipping,

    • Remove the urine samples from the freezer.

    • Place the frozen ice pack into the foam box.

    • Place the urine samples into the bubble wrap bag.

    • Place the bubble wrap bag into the biohazard bag.

    • Place the biohazard bag into the foam box.

    • Secure the foam box lid using the rubber band.

    • Place the foam box into the test kit box.

    • Place the completed activation card into the test kit box.

    • Place the test kit box into the provided return mailer.

  • Make a note of the tracking number so that you can track your sample back to the lab.

  • Ship your samples via FedEx.

    • You can take your samples to the nearest FedEx location.

    • DO NOT place your samples in a drop box.

    • You can also schedule a FedEx pickup by calling 1-800-463-3339 or visiting their website www.fedex.com.

Results

  • Results should be released to your provider 7-21 business days after samples are received at the lab. We cannot guarantee processing time.

  • Your provider will notify you when your results are in and schedule a follow-up appointment for you to review them together.
