This profile measures a variety of neurotransmitters and salivary hormones to assess neurochemical imbalances.
Key Details
🧪 You will collect five samples - one saliva and four urine samples.
🗓️ You do not need to collect your urine and saliva samples on the same day.
🩸 DO NOT collect while menstruating.
❌ You must avoid certain foods, medications, and activities before sample collection.
☀️ Collect your first sample upon waking.
🧊 Freeze your saliva samples if they are not shipped within 24 hours of collection.
🚚 Ship samples back to the lab as soon as possible after collection.
Preparation & Timing
If you are a man, child, or non-menstruating woman, you can collect your samples at any time.
If you are a menstruating woman, collect your saliva samples according to the schedule below.
Regular cycles: Collect on Day 19, 20, or 21 of your cycle (where Day 1 is the first day of your period).
Irregular cycles: Collect 5 days before your period starts.
Talk to your healthcare provider if you are taking any of these medications. They may affect saliva test results.

Collect your saliva sample halfway between doses of these medications.

3 Days Before Saliva Collection
DO NOT take 7-Keto DHEA.
DO NOT use anti-aging/anti-wrinkle face creams.
2 Days Before Saliva Sample Collection
DO NOT apply topical hormones with your bare hands.
Use latex gloves, an applicator, or a hormone-loaded syringe.
DO NOT apply topical hormones on your face, lips, and neck.
1 Day Before Collection
Saliva Collection
If you use topical hormones, change your sheets, pillowcases, and hand towels the night before collection.
DO NOT touch any surfaces that may be contaminated with topical hormones.
Take any night oral or topical hormones at least 12 hours before sample collection.
Urine Collection
Avoid the following foods for 24 hours before and on the day of collection.
Bananas
Pineapples
Avocados
Nuts
Nut butter
Alcohol
Nicotine
Protein powder
Protein shakes
Day of Collection
Saliva Collection
Avoid the following activities for at least 2 hours before collection.
Eating
Drinking anything but water
Brushing your teeth
Collect your sample immediately upon waking.
Urine Collection
Avoid the following activities on the day of sample collection until you have collected sample 2.
Eating
Drinking anything but water
Taking medications
Taking supplements
Taking vitamins
DO NOT drink more than 8 oz of water an hour before each urine collection.
Collection Instructions
Saliva Collection
If you make a mistake collecting your saliva sample:
Rinse the collection tube out with hot water ONLY.
Shake out the remaining water.
Let the tube air dry.
Re-collect at the appropriate time the next day.
Wash your hands with soap and water.
Use a clean towel to dry your hands.
Rinse your mouth with water.
Wait 5 minutes before beginning collection.
Allow saliva to pool in your mouth.
If you have trouble producing saliva, try
Yawning
Thinking of your favorite food
Touching your tongue to the roof of your mouth.
Transfer saliva to the sample tube.
Fill the tube at least half full, not including bubbles.
This may take 15-30 minutes.
Cap the tube securely.
Write the following information on the tube.
Patient's full name
Date of collection
Time of collection
Place the tube back into the bag.
Urine Collection
You will collect four samples following the schedule below.
If you miss a collection, collect the sample at the designated time the following day.
Write the following information on a collection card.
Patient's name
Date of collection
Time of collection
Open the cover on the collection card by folding it back, away from the filter paper.
DO NOT touch the filter paper.
Collect your urine by either:
Urinating directly on the filter paper
Collecting your urine in a clean cup
If you collected your urine in a clean cup, dip the filter paper in the urine up to the top black line.
Ensure the filter paper is fully saturated.
Hang or tape the collection card in a secure place to dry.
DO NOT let anything touch the filter paper.
Let the card dry for at least 6 hours.
Repeat steps 1-7 for all four collections, following the schedule above.
Once the cards are completely dry, refold them.
Place the cards into the baggie.
Seal the baggie.
Place the baggie and the completed test requisition form back into the test kit box.
Place the test kit box into the provided envelope.
Requisition & Payment
Your kit has been prepaid. You DO NOT need to pay anything extra.
You must complete your requisition form and send it back with your samples.
Since you pre-paid for your tests, you do not need to fill in the payment information on this form.
Shipping
Ship samples as soon as possible after collection.
Freeze your saliva samples if you are not shipping within 24 hours of collection.
To prepare your sample for shipping,
Place the COMPLETELY DRY, folded sample cards into the provided bag.
Seal the bag.
Place the urine card bag into the test kit box.
Place the saliva sample tubes into the provided bag.
Place the saliva tube bag into the test kit box.
Place the completed test requisition form into the test kit.
Place the test kit inside the provided envelope.
Place the prepaid label on the envelope.
Make a note of the tracking number on the return mailer so that you can track your samples back to the lab.
Results
Results should be released to your provider 3-5 business days after samples are received at the lab. Rupa Health cannot guarantee processing time.
