The Amino Acids Urine Test analyzes essential and non-essential amino acids and intermediary metabolites. These instructions are for a 24-HOUR collection.

Key Details

  • Do not collect samples while menstruating.

  • You must avoid amino acid supplements prior to sample collection.

  • You will collect your samples upon waking.

  • Freeze your samples before shipping.

  • Samples may only be shipped Monday through Thursday.

  • You DO NOT need to register your kit online or complete a requisition form.

Preparation & Timing

  • Save the cardboard test kit box - you will use this to ship back your samples.

  • If your practitioner has ordered Mosaic Diagnostics tests with multiple sample types, consult THIS DOCUMENT to determine the order in which you should collect your samples.

  • DO NOT collect samples while menstruating.

  • If you are taking antibiotics, finish the course of medication and wait 48 hours before collecting your samples.

  • 48 hours prior to collection

    • Discontinue any amino acid supplements. DO NOT discontinue any prescription medications without first consulting your healthcare provider.

  • 24 hours prior to collection

    • Eat a regular diet containing protein.

Collection Instructions

  1. Collect your second morning urine in the provided collection cup.

  2. Pour the urine into the orange collection container.

  3. Place the orange collection container into the refrigerator.

  4. Collect all urine over the next 24 hours.

    1. Refrigerate the orange collection container in between collections.

  5. Your final collection will be your first urination of the next morning.

  6. After your final collection, place the orange collection container on a flat surface.

  7. Look at the total volume of urine collected.

  8. Write the total volume on the sticker on the urine collection cup lid.

    1. Failure to record the total volume may affect your results.

  9. Make sure the collection container is closed.

  10. Shake the orange collection container to mix the urine.

  11. Pour 50 mL of urine into the yellow-top collection cup.

    1. DO NOT overfill.

  12. Screw the collection cup lid on tightly.

  13. Pour some of the urine into the white specimen vial.

    1. Fill the tube to the fill line.

    2. DO NOT underfill.

  14. Screw the specimen vial lid on tightly.

  15. Invert the vial 5 times to mix the urine with the preservative.

  16. Write the following information on the barcode stickers.

    1. Your full name

    2. The date you finished sample collection

  17. Check the box "Check if Frozen" on the barcode stickers.

  18. Place a barcode sticker on the collection cup and the specimen vial.

  19. Place the following items into the freezer.

    1. Collection cup

    2. Specimen vial

    3. Provided gel pack (lay it flat!)

  20. The samples and gel pack should remain in the freezer for a minimum of 4 hours prior to shipping.

    1. Keep them in the freezer until ready to ship.

    2. Your frozen samples are only viable for 30 days after collection.

  21. Discard any remaining urine and the orange collection container.

  22. When you are ready to ship your samples, place the collection cup into the biohazard zip-lock bag along with the absorbent sheet.

  23. Place the specimen vial into the biohazard zip-lock bag.

  24. Place the frozen gel pack and the samples into the silver thermo bag.

  25. Place the silver thermo bag into the cardboard test kit box.

    1. If the samples are not in the box, they will be rejected by UPS.

Requisition & Payment

  • Your kit has been prepaid. You DO NOT need to pay anything extra.

  • You DO NOT need to register your kit online or complete a requisition form.

Shipping

  • Your samples must be frozen for a minimum of 4 hours prior to shipping.

  • To prepare your samples for shipping,

    • Place the collection cup into the biohazard zip-lock bag.

      • Ensure the absorbent sheet is in the bag as well.

    • Place the specimen vial into the biohazard zip-lock bag.

    • Place the frozen gel pack into the silver thermo bag.

    • Place the biohazard zip-lock bag into the silver thermo bag.

    • Place the silver thermo bag into the cardboard box.

    • Seal the cardboard box.

    • Place the cardboard box into the provided UPS Laboratory Pak.

    • Seal the Laboratory Pak.

  • Make a note of your tracking number (found on the Return Label) so that you can track your samples back to the lab.

  • Ship using UPS.

    • You can take your samples to the nearest UPS location.

    • DO NOT place your samples in a UPS drop box.

    • You can also schedule a UPS pickup by calling 1 (800) 742-5877.

Results

  • Results should be released to your provider 2-3 weeks after samples are received at the lab. We cannot guarantee processing time.

  • Your provider will notify you when your results are in and schedule a follow-up appointment for you to review them together.
