Boston Heart Diagnostics’ swab tests are used to test for various gene variants. These instructions are applicable for all of Boston Heart's genetic swab tests.
Key Details
❌ You must avoid certain activities for 30 minutes before sample collection.
🚚 Ship your sample as soon as possible after collection.
📄 The Rupa Health team will email you your test requisition form. You must PRINT, COMPLETE, and SEND BACK the requisition form with your kit.
Preparation & Timing
Avoid the following activities for 30 minutes before sample collection:
Eating
Smoking
Drinking caffeinated beverages
Collection Instructions
Rinse your mouth with water.
Open the bag.
Remove the plastic swab tube.
Hold the bottom of the swab tube with one hand.
Use your thumb to remove the white cap from the tube.
DO NOT touch the swab.
Firmly rub the inside of your cheek for 20-30 seconds.
You should be using enough pressure for your cheek to be pressed outward.
Switch sides and rub the inside of your other cheek for 20-30 seconds.
You should be using enough pressure for your cheek to be pressed outward.
Carefully place the swab back into the tube.
Press the white cap down until you hear a click.
Write the following information on the provided sticker.
Patient's full name
Patient's date of birth
Place the sticker on the swab tube.
PRINT and COMPLETE your test requisition form.
This form was emailed to you from the Rupa Health team.
You can also find it in your Rupa Health patient portal.
Place the swab tube into the biohazard bag.
Place the completed test requisition form into the biohazard bag.
Place the biohazard bag into the shipping box.
Requisition & Payment
Your kit has been prepaid. You DO NOT need to pay anything extra.
YOUR REQUISITION FORM CAN BE FOUND IN YOUR RUPA PATIENT PORTAL. RUPA HEALTH WILL ALSO EMAIL IT TO YOU.
Please print out this form, complete it, and send it back with your samples.
You must complete your requisition form and send it back with your samples.
Since you pre-paid for your tests, you do not need to fill in the payment information on this form.
Shipping
If you also have a Boston Heart blood test,
You can take your swab sample with you to your blood draw. The phlebotomist can ship the blood and swab samples together.
If you do not have a Boston Heart blood test,
PRINT and COMPLETE your test requisition form.
Place the swab tube into the biohazard bag.
Place the completed test requisition form into the biohazard bag.
Seal the biohazard bag.
Place the biohazard bag into the shipping box.
Seal the shipping box with the adhesive strips.
Place the provided FedEx return label on the box.
Ship your sample via FedEx.
Take your sample to the nearest FedEx shipping location.
DO NOT place your sample in a FedEx drop box.
Make a note of the tracking number on the return mailer so that you can track your sample back to the lab.
Results
Results should be released to your provider 10-14 business days after your sample is received at the lab. Rupa Health cannot guarantee processing time.
