Key Details

  • ❌ DO NOT collect your sample while you are menstruating, have a UTI, or are taking methylene blue.

  • 🚚 Ship your sample within 48 hours of collection.

  • ❄️ You should freeze your sample if you cannot ship it on the same day as the collection.

Preparation & Timing

  • DO NOT collect your sample while menstruating.

  • DO NOT collect your sample while you have a urinary tract infection (UTI).

  • DO NOT collect your sample while you are taking methylene blue. Blue urine samples will be immediately rejected by the lab.

  • No special preparation is needed.

Collection Instructions

  1. You will collect your first morning urine.

    1. Collect before eating or drinking.

    2. If you have a nontraditional schedule, collect your first urine after your longest stretch of sleep (6-8 hours after your last urination).

  2. Start urinating - do not collect the first portion of urine.

  3. Start collecting urine mid-stream in the collection cup.

    1. You can also use a new, clean disposable cup.

  4. Fill the cup about 3/4 full.

  5. Finish urinating into the toilet.

  6. Use the pipette to transfer the urine into the provided tube.

  7. Fill the tube to the 7 mL mark.

    1. DO NOT overfill.

  8. Twist the cap until it is securely sealed.

  9. Write the following information on the tube.

    1. Patient's full name

    2. Date of collection

    3. Patient's date of birth

  10. Place the tube into the biohazard bag.

  11. Seal the bag.

  12. Complete the test requisition form.

    📄 How to Complete Your Requisition

  13. If you cannot ship your sample on the day of collection, place it in the freezer until you can ship it.

    1. Please write the date the sample was frozen on the test requisition form.

Requisition & Payment

  • Your kit has been prepaid. You DO NOT need to pay anything extra.

  • You must complete your requisition form and send it back with your samples.

    • Since you pre-paid for your tests, you do not need to fill in the payment information on this form.

📄 How to Complete Your Requisition

Shipping

  • Ship your sample within 48 hours of collection.

  • If you cannot ship your sample on the day of collection, place it in the freezer until you can ship it.

    • Please write the date the sample was frozen on the test requisition form.

  • To prepare your sample for shipping,

    • Place the specimen tube into the biohazard bag with the absorbent pad.

    • Seal the bag securely.

    • Place the completed test requisition form into the pocket on the outside of the biohazard bag.

    • Place the biohazard bag into the test kit box.

    • Seal the box.

    • Place the test kit box into the provided prepaid mailer.

    • Seal the prepaid mailer.

  • Make a note of the tracking number on the return label so that you can track your sample back to the lab.

  • Refer to your shipping label for the shipment provider. Take your package to the nearest drop-off location.

    • DO NOT place your sample in a drop box.

Results

  • Results should be released to your provider 7-10 business days after samples are received at the lab. Rupa Health cannot guarantee processing time.
