The Toxic Element Clearance Profile measures urinary excretion of 20 potentially harmful toxic metals. These instructions are for the timed collection.

Key Details

  • Do not collect while menstruating.

  • Avoid certain supplements and products for 48 hours prior to sample collection.

  • Avoid seafood for 48 hours prior to sample collection.

  • Rupa Health recommends shipping Monday - Thursday only to avoid shipment delays.

Preparation & Timing

  • Do not collect while menstruating.

  • Avoid supplements containing the following products for 48 hours prior to sample collection.

    • Creatinine

    • Vitamin C

    • Any mineral elements measured on this test

    • Do not discontinue any medications or supplements prior to consulting with your healthcare practitioner.

  • Avoid any substance that may influence urinary element excretion of elements for 48 hours prior to sample collection.

  • Avoid seafood for 48 hours prior to sample collection.

Collection Instructions

  1. This is a timed collection. Your practitioner will tell you the duration of your collection.

    1. You should collect at least 120 mL (4 oz) during your collection.

  2. Collect urine in the provided collection cup.

  3. Pour the urine from the collection cup into the large orange jug.

  4. Place the lid back on the collection cup.

    1. DO NOT rinse or wipe out the cup in between collections.

  5. Place the cap back on the jug.

  6. Place the orange jug in the refrigerator.

  7. Repeat steps 2-6 each time you urinate during your collection period.

  8. Once the collection period is over, you will measure the urine you collected.

    1. If you only used one jug,

      1. Set the jug on a level surface.

      2. Use the milliliter marks on the jug to read the total volume collected.

      3. Make a note of this total for the test registration.

      4. Tighten the lid.

      5. Invert the jug repeatedly for 30 seconds.

    2. If you used two jugs,

      1. Put on the disposable gloves.

      2. Mix the urine by pouring back and forth between the jugs.

      3. Set the jugs on a level surface.

      4. Use the millimeter marks on the jugs to read the total volume collected in each jug.

      5. Make a note of the total amount of urine (jug 1 + jug 2) for the test registration.

  9. Use the pipette to transfer urine to fill both sample tubes.

    1. If you have urine in two jugs, you can just choose one to use to fill the tubes.

  10. Cap the tubes.

  11. Discard any remaining urine and all of the collection materials.

  12. Write the following information on the provided labels.

    1. Your name - Please ensure that the name on the label matches the name on your Rupa order EXACTLY. If it does not match, you may need to recollect your samples.

    2. Your date of birth

    3. The date of collection

  13. Place a label on each collection tube.

  14. Place the tubes in the biohazard bag.

  15. Refrigerate the samples until you are ready to ship.

  16. Complete the test registration (instructions HERE).

    1. Please ensure that the name on the registration matches the name on your Rupa order EXACTLY. If it does not match, you may need to recollect your samples.

Requisition & Payment

  • Your kit has been prepaid. You DO NOT need to pay anything extra.

  • Instructions on how to complete your test registration can be found HERE.

    • Since you pre-paid for your tests, you do not need to fill in the payment information on this form.

Shipping

  • Ship samples as soon as possible after collection.

  • Rupa Health recommends shipping Monday - Thursday only to avoid shipment delays.

  • Samples should be refrigerated until shipped.

  • To prepare your samples for shipping,

    • Place specimen tubes into the biohazard bag with the absorbent pad.

    • Place the completed activation card into the side pocket of the biohazard bag.

    • Place the biohazard bag into the test kit box.

    • Place the test kit box into the provided return mailer.

  • Make a note of the tracking number so that you can track your samples back to the lab.

  • Ship your samples via FedEx.

    • You can take your samples to the nearest FedEx location.

    • DO NOT place your samples in a drop box.

    • You can also schedule a FedEx pickup by calling 1-800-463-3339 or visiting their website www.fedex.com.

Results

  • Results should be released to your provider 7-21 business days after samples are received at the lab. We cannot guarantee processing time.

  • Your provider will notify you when your results are in and schedule a follow-up appointment for you to review them together.
