Key Details

  • You must fast overnight prior to sample collection.

Preparation & Timing

  • Consult your healthcare provider about stopping medications and supplements prior to collection.

    • DO NOT discontinue any medications without consulting your healthcare provider.

  • Fast overnight prior to sample collection.

    • You can drink water during your fast.

Collection Instructions

  1. Using a permanent marker, write the following information on the provided labels.

    1. Your date of birth

    2. The date of collection

  2. Place a completed label on the blood spot card.

  3. Wash your hands with warm water for at least 20 seconds.

  4. Dry your hands with a clean towel.

  5. To improve circulation (which will make your collection easier!):

    1. Hold your hand lower than heart level and gently massage the entire length of the middle finger on your non-dominant hand for 30 seconds.

    2. Hang your arm down and gently shake your fingers for a few seconds.

    3. Rub your hands together for a few seconds.

  6. Clean the tip of your middle finger (on your non-dominant hand) with the included alcohol pad.

  7. Remove the clear cap from the lancet.

  8. Press the tip of the lancet firmly against the side of your sterilized finger until you hear a click.

    1. You will use the side of the lancet that has a small hole in the center.

    2. DO NOT prick the middle of your finger pad - this will hurt more!

  9. Wipe away the first blood drop with the gauze pad.

  10. Gently massage the entire length of your pricked finger to form blood drops.

  11. Touch the tip of the drop to a circle on the collection card.

    1. DO NOT smear the blood drop.

    2. DO NOT touch the card with your finger.

  12. Fill ALL circles FULLY.

    1. Blood should saturate through both sides of the card.

    2. All four circles should be filled.

  13. If you cannot get sufficient blood, repeat steps 3-12 with the second lancet and another finger.

  14. Use the gauze pad to dry your finger.

  15. Bandage your finger.

  16. Allow the collection card to dry for at least 24 hours.

  17. Once the card is dry, close it and place it in the biohazard bag.

    1. Ensure the silica absorbent pack is in the bag.

  18. Complete the test registration (instructions HERE).

    1. Please ensure that the name on the registration matches the name on your Rupa order EXACTLY. If it does not match, you may need to recollect your samples.

Requisition & Payment

  • Your kit has been prepaid. You DO NOT need to pay anything extra.

  • Instructions on how to complete your test registration can be found HERE.

    • Since you pre-paid for your tests, you do not need to fill in the payment information on this form.

Shipping

  • Ship your sample within 48 hours of collection.

  • Rupa Health recommends shipping Monday - Thursday only to avoid shipment delays.

  • To prepare your sample for shipping,

    • Allow the collection card to FULLY DRY for at least 24 hours.

    • Place the collection card into the biohazard bag with the silica pack.

    • Place the biohazard bag into the provided return envelope.

    • Place the completed activation card into the return envelope.

  • Make a note of the tracking number so that you can track your sample back to the lab.

  • Ship your samples via FedEx.

    • You can take your samples to the nearest FedEx location.

    • DO NOT place your samples in a drop box.

    • You can also schedule a FedEx pickup by calling 1-800-463-3339 or visiting their website www.fedex.com.

Results

  • Results should be released to your provider 7-21 business days after samples are received at the lab. We cannot guarantee processing time.

  • Your provider will notify you when your results are in and schedule a follow-up appointment for you to review them together.
