The Menstrual Cycle Mapping test assesses hormone patterns throughout your menstrual cycle.


Key Details

Preparation & Timing

  • If you are currently using hormone therapy (including birth control pills or IUDs), consult your healthcare practitioner before completing this test.

  • You will start your collection on Day 7 of your menstrual cycle.

    • Day 1 is the first day of your period.

  • You will collect one sample every other day.

    • Collect until you start your next period OR until you run out of collection cards.

    • NOTE: It is okay if you collect all cards and still have a few days before your next period starts.

  • You will collect your first morning urination on each collection day.

  • Avoid the following activities each day until you have collected your sample:

    • Eating

    • Drinking anything but water

    • Drinking more than 8 oz of water

    • Taking vitamins or supplements

    • Taking medications


Collection Instructions

Your first sample will be collected on Day 7 of your cycle. Day 1 is the first day of your period.

Collect following the schedule below until your period begins OR you run out of collection cards.

If you miss a collection, collect either

  • Your second urination on the scheduled day

  • Your first urination the next day

  • Example: If you miss Day 15, you can collect your second urination on Day 15 or collect your first urination on Day 16. Then collect your next sample as scheduled on Day 17.

  1. For each collection, you will collect your first urination of the day.

  2. Remove one collection card from the plastic wrap.

  3. Write the following information on a collection card.

    1. Patient's name

    2. Date of collection

    3. Time of collection

  4. Open the cover on the collection card by folding it back, away from the filter paper.

    1. DO NOT touch the filter paper.

  5. Collect your urine by either:

    1. Urinating directly on the filter paper

    2. Collecting your urine in a clean cup

  6. If you collected your urine in a clean cup, dip the filter paper in the urine up to the top black line.

  7. Ensure the filter paper is fully saturated.

  8. Hang or tape the collection card in a secure place to dry.

    1. DO NOT let anything touch the filter paper.

  9. Let the card dry for 24-48 hours.

    1. DO NOT leave the card out for over 48 hours.

  10. Once the cards are completely dry, refold them.

  11. Place the cards into the baggie.

  12. Seal the baggie.

  13. Complete the test requisition form. Make sure to write the date your next period begins.

  14. Repeat for all collections, following the schedule above.


Requisition & Payment

  • Your kit has been prepaid. You DO NOT need to pay anything extra.

  • You must complete your requisition form and send it back with your samples.

    • Since you pre-paid for your tests, you do not need to fill in the payment information on this form.


Shipping

  • Ship samples as soon as possible after collection.

  • To prepare your sample for shipping,

    • Place the COMPLETELY DRY, folded sample cards into the baggie.

    • Seal the baggie.

    • Place the baggie into the test kit box.

    • Place the completed test requisition form into the test kit.

    • Place the test kit inside the provided envelope.

    • Place the prepaid label on the envelope.

  • Make a note of the tracking number on the return mailer so that you can track your samples back to the lab.


Results

  • Results should be released to your provider 3-5 business days after samples are received at the lab. Rupa Health cannot guarantee processing time.
