Access Medical Labs' urine tests measure the excretion of various metals, elements, or other biomarkers in the urine. They are used to evaluate and monitor various diseases. These instructions are for a 24-hour collection.


Key Details

  • 🍽️ If you are taking a heavy metals test, avoid seafood for 72 hours before collection.

  • 🚚 Ship your samples via UPS as soon as possible after collection.

  • ❄️ Refrigerate your samples until you are ready to ship them.

  • πŸ§ͺ If you have other Access Medical Labs tests (stool, blood, or saliva), YOU MUST ship all of your samples together.


Preparation & Timing

  • If you are taking a heavy metals test, avoid seafood for 72 hours before collection.

  • DO NOT drink excessive water before the test.


Collection Instructions

  1. Urinate upon waking. DO NOT collect this urine.

  2. Collect all urinations for the next 24 hours.

    1. Start with your second urination of day 1.

    2. End with your first urination (upon waking) of day 2.

  3. For each collection,

    1. Collect your urine in the provided collection cup.

    2. Remove the white cap from the orange jug.

    3. Pour the urine into the orange jug.

    4. Place the cap back on the orange jug.

    5. Place the orange jug in the refrigerator.

    6. Place the lid on the collection cup.

      1. DO NOT rinse or clean the collection cup in between collections.

  4. Once the collection period is over, set the orange jug(s) on a level surface.

  5. If you used one orange jug,

    1. Note the total volume using the milliliter marks on the jug.

    2. Write this total volume on your requisition form.

    3. Tighten the cap on the jug.

    4. Invert the jug for 30 seconds to mix the urine.

    5. Go to step 7.

  6. If you used two orange jugs,

    1. Put on the disposable gloves.

    2. Pour back and forth between the jugs to mix the urine.

    3. Note the total volume of each jug using the milliliter marks on the jug.

    4. Add the volumes of each jug together.

    5. Write the total amount of urine on the requisition form.

    6. Choose either jug to use for step 7.

  7. Use the provided pipette to transfer urine into the specimen tubes.

  8. Tighten the cap on the tubes.

  9. Discard the remaining urine and the collection materials.

  10. Write the following information on each tube.

    1. Patient's full name

    2. Date of collection

    3. Total urine volume (in mL)

  11. Place the specimen tubes into the biohazard bag.

  12. Put the biohazard bag in the refrigerator until ready to ship.


Requisition & Payment

  • Your kit has been prepaid. You DO NOT need to pay anything extra.

  • You must complete your requisition form and send it back with your sample.

    • Since you pre-paid for your tests, you do not need to fill in the payment information on this form.


Shipping

❗️If you have other Access Medical Labs tests (stool, blood, or saliva), YOU MUST ship all of your samples together.

  • Ship your samples via UPS as soon as possible after collection.

    • Refrigerate your samples until you are ready to ship.

  • To prepare your samples for shipping,

    • Place the samples into the biohazard bag.

    • Place the biohazard bag into the test kit box.

    • Place the completed test requisition form into the test kit box.

    • Place the test kit box into the provided UPS mailer.

    • Seal the mailer.

  • Make a note of the tracking number on the return label so that you can track your samples back to the lab.

  • Take your samples to a UPS location.

    • DO NOT place your samples in a drop box.


Results

  • Results should be released to your provider 1-6 business days after samples are received at the lab. Rupa Health cannot guarantee processing time.
