Hydrate the day before sample collection.
No special diet, preparation, or timing is required.
Collection Instructions
Write the following information on the blood spot card.
Patient's first and last name
Date of collection
Complete the test requisition form.
Wash your hands with soap and warm water.
Dry your hands with a clean towel.
Try one of the following activities to increase circulation.
Rubbing your hands together
Swinging your arms around several times
Shaking your arms
Doing a few jumping jacks
Place the blood spot card face up in front of you.
Open the gauze and set it aside.
Wipe the tip of your finger with the alcohol prep pad.
It is recommended you use your index or middle finger on your non-dominant hand.
Let your finger air dry.
Remove the cap from the lancet.
Place your hand palm up on a hard surface.
Place the tip of the lancet against the side of the sterilized fingertip.
Press the lancet firmly until you hear a click.
Wipe away the first drop of blood with the gauze.
Gently massage the finger to produce a large droplet of blood.
Touch the droplet to one circle of the collection card.
DO NOT touch the card with your finger.
Fill all 5 circles completely.
Apply pressure to the puncture site with the gauze.
Bandage the finger.
Allow the card to air dry for at least 20 minutes.
Place the blood spot card into the biohazard bag.
Place the completed test requisition form in the outside pouch of the biohazard bag.
Place the biohazard bag back in the test kit box.
Requisition & Payment
Your kit has been prepaid. You DO NOT need to pay anything extra.
You must complete your requisition form and send it back with your samples.
Since you pre-paid for your tests, you do not need to fill in any payment information on this form.
Shipping
To prepare your sample for shipping,
Allow the card to air dry for at least 20 minutes.
Place the blood spot card into the biohazard bag.
Place the completed test requisition form into the outside pouch of the biohazard bag.
Seal the biohazard bag.
Place the biohazard bag into the test kit box.
Place the test kit box into the return mailer.
Seal the mailer.
Make a note of the tracking number so that you can track your sample back to the lab.
Return using the appropriate carrier (the return mailer will indicate the carrier).
Results
Results should be released to your provider after samples are received and processed at the lab. Rupa Health cannot guarantee processing time.
