Infinite Allergy Labs's dried blood spot tests look at immune reactions to common food and environmental triggers. They can help identify sensitivities and allergies that may be causing health problems.

Preparation & Timing

  • Hydrate the day before collection.

  • DO NOT smoke for a few hours before sample collection.


Collection Instructions

  1. Complete the test requisition.

  2. Write the following information on each blood spot card.

    1. Patient's full name

    2. Patient's date of birth

    3. Date of collection

  3. Pull back the flap on each blood spot card until you see the collection circles.

    1. DO NOT touch the sample collection circles.

  4. Place the blood spot cards on a clean, flat surface.

  5. Wash your hands with warm, soapy water for at least 30 seconds.

  6. Dry your hands with a clean towel.

  7. Warm your hands by doing any of the following for at least 30 seconds:

    1. Rub your hands together

    2. Shake your hands and arms

    3. Jump

    4. Walk or run in place

  8. Choose the finger you will use.

    1. It is recommended to use the ring finger on your non-dominant hand.

  9. Clean the tip of your chosen finger with the provided alcohol pad.

  10. Twist open the lancet.

  11. Set your hand on a hard surface.

  12. Press the small end of the lancet against the side of your chosen finger.

  13. Press firmly until you hear a click.

  14. Wipe away the first drop of blood with the gauze.

    1. If a blood drop does not form, gently massage your finger until one drop forms.

  15. Touch a drop of blood to the center of the first collection circle.

    1. DO NOT touch the card directly with your finger.

  16. Continue adding blood drops to the circle until it is completely filled.

  17. Repeat steps 14-15 until all 5 circles on each blood spot card are completely filled.

    1. You will have 2 or 3 blood spot cards. You must complete each card you were sent.

    2. You may need to use multiple fingers to complete the collection. Repeat steps 8-15 for each finger you need to use.

  18. Once your collection is complete, leave the cards open and allow them to dry for at least 30 minutes.

    1. DO NOT expose the cards to moving air (like a fan), heat, or direct sunlight.

  19. Once the cards are completely dry, close each card by tucking the flap into the tab.

  20. Put all of the blood spot cards into the biohazard bag.

  21. Put the completed requisition form into the outer pocket of the biohazard bag.

  22. Put the biohazard bag into the prepaid envelope.


Requisition & Payment

  • Your kit has been prepaid. You DO NOT need to pay anything extra.

  • You must complete your requisition form and send it back with your samples.

    • Since you pre-paid for your tests, you do not need to fill in the payment information on any of these forms.


Shipping

  • Ship your samples via USPS within 24 hours of collection.

  • To prepare your samples for shipping,

    • Put all of the completed, dry blood spot cards into the biohazard bag.

    • Put the completed requisition form into the outer flap of the biohazard bag.

    • Seal the biohazard bag.

    • Put the biohazard bag into the provided, prepaid envelope.

    • Seal the envelope.

  • Make a note of your tracking number so that you can track your sample back to the lab.


Results

  • Results should be released to your provider 14 business days after samples are received at the lab. Rupa Health cannot guarantee processing time.
