Preparation & Timing

Hydrate before collection. This will make it easier to collect your sample.
Collection Instructions
Complete your test requisition form.
Write the following information on the blood spot card.
Patient's full name
Date of collection
Wash your hands using warm water.
Dry your hands with a clean towel.
Try one of the following activities to increase circulation.
Rubbing your hands together
Swinging your arms around several times
Shaking your arms
Doing a few jumping jacks
Determine which finger you will stick.
It is recommended that you choose the index or middle finger on your non-dominant hand.
Clean the finger with the alcohol prep pad.
Use a twisting motion to remove the cap (small end) from one lancet.
Press the small end of the lancet firmly against the SIDE of your finger until you hear a CLICK.
DO NOT prick your finger pad.
Position a blood drop above one of the circular pads on the card.
Allow the blood to drip onto and absorb into the card.
DO NOT touch the card with your finger.
Circles should be completely filled.
Blood should be soaked through to the other side of the card.
How many circles you will fill depends on your test. See the chart below.
When you have filled the required number of circles, apply the bandage to the puncture site.
Bend the blood spot card away from its cover.
Allow the card to AIR DRY completely.
DO NOT use heat to dry the card.
Once the blood spot card is completely dry, place the card into the biohazard bag and seal it.
Place the biohazard bag into the return envelope.
Place the completed test requisition form into the return envelope.
Requisition & Payment
Your kit has been prepaid. You DO NOT need to pay anything extra.
You must complete your requisition form and send it back with your samples.
Since you pre-paid for your tests, you do not need to fill in the payment information on any of these forms.
Shipping
Ship samples back to the lab as soon as possible.
To prepare your sample for shipping,
Make sure the blood spot card is completely dry.
Place the blood spot card into the biohazard bag.
Seal the biohazard bag.
Place the biohazard bag into the return envelope.
Place the completed test requisition form into the return envelope.
Seal the return envelope and ship using the indicated carrier.
Make a note of the tracking number on the return mailer so that you can track your sample back to the lab.
Results
Results should be released to your provider 5-7 days after samples are received at the lab. Rupa Health cannot guarantee processing time.
