The Gastrointestinal Microbial Assay Plus (GI-MAP) detects microbes that may be disturbing normal microbial balance or contributing to illness, as well as indicators of digestion, absorption, inflammation, and immune function. These instructions apply to the GI-MAP and all GI-MAP stool add-ons.

π’ No special preparation or timing is required.
π§ͺ DO NOT discard the pink liquid in the specimen vial.
π« DO NOT freeze your sample.
π Please print the requisition form from your Rupa patient portal and send it back with your samples. Your sample must be CLEARLY labeled and arrive at the lab with a completed test requisition form for the lab to analyze it.
π Your sample can only be shipped Monday - Friday.
ποΈ Your sample must be received by the lab within 5 days of collection. It is ONLY VIABLE FOR 10 DAYS post-collection.
Preparation & Timing
Continue taking all medications unless otherwise directed by your provider.
This test can be taken at any time.
Collection Instructions
Write the following information on the specimen vial. Unlabeled samples will not be analyzed by the lab.
Patient's full name
Patient's date of birth
Date of collection
If possible, urinate before collecting stool.
Put gloves on and pass stool into the provided collection tray.
Tip: It may help to put plastic wrap over the toilet seat, then place the collection container on the plastic wrap.
Open the specimen vial.
DO NOT discard the pink liquid in the specimen vial.
Using the spoon attached to the cap of the vial, spoon stool from multiple areas of the sample into the vial.
Collect from at least 4 areas going left to right.
Fill the specimen vial to the red βfill lineβ indicated on the label.
It may not be processed if there is not enough of your sample.
Carefully mix the stool and the pink fluid with the spoon attached to the cap.
Replace the cap tightly and shake the vial vigorously for 30 seconds.
Place the capped specimen vial into the specimen bag along with the absorbent pad.
Seal the specimen bag.
Complete the test requisition form.
NOTE: Your sample will not be analyzed by the lab if it arrives at the lab without a completed test requisition form.
Place the completed test requisition form into the document holder of the specimen bag.
Place the specimen bag into the kit box.
Place the kit box into the provided FedEx Clinical Pak Mailer.
Requisition & Payment
Your kit has been prepaid. You DO NOT need to pay anything extra.
Please print the requisition form from your Rupa patient portal and send it back with your samples.
NOTE: Your sample will not be analyzed by the lab if your requisition form is not completed and sent with your sample.
You must complete your requisition form and send it back with your samples.
Since you pre-paid for your tests, you do not need to fill in the payment information on this form.
NOTES FOR MEDICARE ORDERS:
If you do not complete the requisition correctly, your order may be reverted to cash pay.

Shipping
Your sample may only be shipped Monday through Friday.
Your sample must be received by the lab within 6 days of collection.
If you cannot ship the specimen on the day of collection, refrigerate the sample (DO NOT freeze) and ship within 3 days.
To prepare your sample for shipping,
Place the capped specimen vial into the specimen bag along with the absorbent pad.
Place the completed test requisition form into the document holder of the specimen bag.
Seal the specimen bag.
Place the specimen bag into the test kit box.
Place the test kit box into the provided FedEx Clinical Pak Mailer.
Make a note of your tracking number (found on the Return Label) so you can track your sample back to the lab.

Results
Results should be released to your provider 14 business days after your sample is received at the lab. We cannot guarantee processing time.
