Boston Heart Diagnostics’ blood spot panels can include any combination of biomarkers chosen for you by your practitioner.
Key Details
🍽️ You must fast for 8 hours before collection.
💧 Hydrate before sample collection.
🧪 These tests MUST be run through a blood spot sample.
📄 The Rupa Health team will email you your test requisition form. You must PRINT, COMPLETE, and SEND BACK the requisition form with your kit.
Preparation & Timing
You may collect your sample at any time.
You must fast for 8 hours before collection.
During your fast, you can drink water, black coffee, or tea without sugar or dairy.
Hydrate before sample collection.
It is recommended to drink 3 cups of water in the hour before collection.
Collection Instructions
Figure out how many blood spot cards you need to use.
Look at your requisition form.
Sum up the numbers circled in green.
You will use one card for every 12 points.
Ex: If the sum of the numbers is 10, you will use one card.
Ex: If the sum of the numbers is 30, you will use three cards.
Ex: For this order, the sum is 8. You would use one card.
Write the following information on all of the sample collection cards you will need.
Patient's full name
Patient's date of birth
Date of collection
Wash your hands with warm water for at least 2 minutes.
Try one of the following activities to increase circulation and ease your sample collection.
Rubbing your hands together
Swinging your arms around several times
Shaking your arms
Doing a few jumping jacks
Choose the finger you will use for collection.
It is recommended to use your middle or ring finger on your non-dominant hand.
Clean your chosen finger with the alcohol swab.
Use a twisting motion to remove the cap (small end) from one lancet.
Press the small end of the lancet firmly against the SIDE of your finger until you hear a CLICK.
DO NOT prick your finger pad.
Use the gauze to wipe away the first drop of blood.
Allow 4-7 large, free-falling blood drops to fall on the top left square of the card.
DO NOT touch the card with your finger.
DO NOT put blood on the rectangles on the right of the card.
Allow 4-7 large, free-falling blood drops to fall on the bottom left square of the card.
DO NOT touch the card with your finger.
DO NOT put blood on the rectangles on the right of the card.
If you're having trouble getting enough blood, repeat steps 5-8 to prepare another finger to finish the collection.
Repeat steps 9 and 10 for all collection cards you will need.

Allow the collection card(s) to dry for 1 hour.
PRINT and COMPLETE your test requisition form.
This form was emailed to you from the Rupa Health team.
You can also find it in your Rupa Health patient portal.
Once the collection card(s) are dry, tear open one Blood Sample Return Bag at the notches.
Place ONE dried collection card into the bag.
DO NOT remove anything from the bag.
Repeat steps 14 and 15 for all collection cards.
Place the Blood Sample Return Bag(s) into the plastic bag.
Place the completed requisition form into the outside pocket on the plastic bag.
Place the plastic bag into the shipping envelope.
Requisition & Payment
Your kit has been prepaid. You DO NOT need to pay anything extra.
YOUR REQUISITION FORM CAN BE FOUND IN YOUR RUPA PATIENT PORTAL. RUPA HEALTH WILL ALSO EMAIL IT TO YOU.
Please print out this form, complete it, and send it back with your samples.
You must complete your requisition form and send it back with your samples.
Since you pre-paid for your tests, you do not need to fill in the payment information on this form.
Shipping
To prepare your sample for shipping,
Place the dried collection cards into the Blood Sample Return bags.
DO NOT remove anything from the bag.
Only ONE dried collection card can be placed into a Blood Sample Return bag.
Ex: If you have two collection cards, you should have 2 Blood Sample Return Bags.
Place the Blood Sample Return Bag(s) into the plastic bag.
Place the completed requisition form into the outside pocket on the plastic bag.
Place the plastic bag into the provided shipping envelope.
Seal the shipping envelope.
Make a note of your tracking number so that you can track your sample back to the lab.
Ship your sample via FedEx.
Take your sample to the nearest FedEx shipping location.
DO NOT place your sample in a FedEx drop box.
Results
Results should be released to your provider 10-14 business days after samples are received at the lab. Rupa Health cannot guarantee processing time.
