This test looks at specific variations in your genes that can affect your body's methylation pathway. Methylation is critical in many biological processes, including energy production and mood regulation.


Key Details

  • ❌ You must avoid certain activities the night before and the day of sample collection.

Preparation & Timing

  • Sample collection should be performed before your blood draw.

  • If you are taking any of the following medications, consult your healthcare provider regarding timing.

    • SAM-e supplements

    • Amino acid supplements

    • Non-essential nutritional supplements

  • The night before collection

    • DO NOT use mouthwash.

  • The morning of collection

    • DO NOT eat anything.

    • DO NOT drink anything besides water.

    • DO NOT brush your teeth.

    • DO NOT floss your teeth.

    • DO NOT use mouthwash.

    • DO NOT chew gum.

    • DO NOT use tobacco.

  • Your sample should be collected immediately upon waking.


Collection Instructions

  1. Collect your samples immediately upon waking.

  2. Thoroughly wash your hands with soap and warm water.

  3. Dry your hands with a clean towel.

  4. Gently peel open the package labeled "Sterile Cotton Tipped Applicator."

    1. Keep the package intact.

    2. Only peel it open enough to remove the applicator.

  5. Remove ONE cotton swab applicator.

    1. DO NOT touch the cotton tip.

  6. Open your mouth widely.

  7. Insert the cotton tip of the swab applicator.

  8. Aggressively scrape the inside of your cheek for at least 30 seconds.

    1. Use a back and forth, up and down motion.

    2. Rotate the applicator several times.

    3. Swab between the cheek and gums.

    4. Avoid excessive saliva.

  9. Allow the swab to air dry for 15-20 minutes.

    1. DO NOT let the cotton tip touch any surface or your hands.

  10. Repeat steps 5-9 with the second swab.

  11. Complete the test registration.

    1. Please ensure that the name on the registration matches the name on your Rupa order EXACTLY. If it does not match, you may need to recollect your samples.

  12. Once the swabs have dried, place them back into the applicator package, cotton tip first.

  13. Write the following information on a label and place it on the envelope.

    1. Date of collection

    2. Patient's date of birth

  14. Insert the swab applicator package into the provided envelope and seal.


Requisition & Payment

  • Your kit has been prepaid. You DO NOT need to pay anything extra.

  • You must complete your requisition form and send it back with your samples.

    • Since you pre-paid for your tests, you do not need to fill in the payment information on this form.


Shipping

  • To prepare your samples for shipping,

    • Allow each swab to air dry for 15-20 minutes, keeping the tip from touching any surface.

    • Place the dry swabs in the applicator package (cotton tip first).

    • Place the applicator package in the provided letter envelope and seal.

    • Fill out the label and place it on the envelope.

    • Place the letter envelope in the provided collection kit envelope.

    • Place the completed activation card in the collection kit envelope.

    • Seal the collection kit envelope.

    • Place the Billable Stamp on the package.

  • Make a note of the tracking number so that you can track your samples back to the lab.

  • Rupa Health recommends shipping Monday - Thursday only to avoid shipment delays.

  • Ship via FedEx.

    • Call FedEx at 1-800-463-3339 to schedule a pick-up.

    • You can also drop the package off at a FedEx location. DO NOT place your samples in a FedEx drop box.


Results

  • Results should be released to your provider 7-21 business days after samples are received at the lab. Rupa Health cannot guarantee processing time.
