Key Details
π§ͺ You will collect two samples - a urine sample and a dust sample.
β DO NOT collect your sample when you are menstruating or when you have a UTI.
π§ Avoid excessive fluid intake the evening before sample collection.
βοΈ Collect your sample upon waking.
π Ship your sample back to the lab within 48 hours of collection.
Preparation & Timing
DO NOT collect samples while:
You are menstruating.
You have a urinary tract infection.
You are taking methylene blue.
Avoid excessive fluid intake the evening before collection.
If your sample is too dilute, it will not be able to be analyzed.
Collection Instructions
Urine Collection
You will collect your first morning urine.
Collect before eating or drinking.
If you have a nontraditional schedule, collect your first urine after your longest stretch of sleep.
Write the following information on the urine specimen tube label:
Patient's full name
Patient's date of birth
Complete the test requisition form.
Please ensure the name on your samples, requisition form, and Rupa order all match. You may be required to recollect your sample if they do not match.
Start urinating - do not collect the first portion of urine.
Start collecting urine mid-stream in the collection cup.
Fill the collection cup about 1/2 full.
Finish urinating into the toilet.
Use the provided pipette to transfer urine into the urine specimen tube.
Squeeze the top of the pipette.
Place the pipette into the collection cup.
Release pressure on the top of the pipette to draw urine into the pipette.
Place the pipette into the urine specimen tube.
Squeeze the top to release urine into the urine specimen tube.
Fill the tube with urine to the 7 mL line.
Place the cap back onto the urine specimen tube.
Twist the cap tightly to seal the urine specimen tube.
Place the urine specimen tube into the other biohazard bag with the absorbent pad and seal tightly.
Dust Collection
Write the following information on the provided label.
Patient name
Patient's date of birth
Provider name
Place the label on the blue top specimen tube.
Open the swab package and remove one swab.
Keep the package intact.
You can choose to collect dust from any of the locations listed below.
Air conditioner filter - PREFERRED
Rub the swab over the air filter for a minimum of 30 seconds.
Collect as much dust onto the tip of the swab as possible.
You should collect 1-3 grams of dust (about a bottle cap full) on the swab.
Area of visible mold or water damage - PREFERRED
Slightly moisten the cotton end of the swab.
Rotate the swab over the visible mold for a minimum of 30 seconds.
Heater/air conditioner vent - PREFERRED
Rub the swab over the vents/grates to collect dust.
You should collect 1-3 grams of dust (about a bottle cap full) on the swab.
Windowsill
Slightly moisten the cotton end of the swab.
Swab any visible mold or dark spots by rubbing the swab over the area for a minimum of 30 seconds.
Swab the bottom corners and the area around 2 inches from the corners of the windowsill.
Under/behind furniture
Swipe the swab back and forth in a continuous motion under/behind the furniture.
You should collect 1-3 grams of dust (about a bottle cap full) on the swab.
Refrigerator dust
Swipe the swab back and forth in a continuous motion on the back of the refrigerator or the refrigerator vent.
You should collect 1-3 grams of dust (about a bottle cap full) on the swab.
Vacuum cleaner filter
Rub the swab along the filter for a minimum of 30 seconds.
Collect as much dust onto the tip of the swab as possible.
You should collect 1-3 grams of dust (about a bottle cap full) on the swab.
Open the specimen tube.
Place the swab into the specimen tube, cotton tip down.
Push the swab shaft into the side of the specimen tube to snap it off.
The cotton tip of the swab should fall to the bottom of the specimen tube.
Repeat steps 3-7 for the second swab.
Place the cap back on the specimen tube.
Press the cap down to secure it tightly.
Place the specimen tube into the biohazard bag.
Seal the biohazard bag.
Complete the chain of custody form that came with your kit.
Please ensure the Client Name matches the name on your Rupa order and requisition form EXACTLY.
Place the forms into the outside pocket of the biohazard bag.
Place the biohazard bag into the plastic kit container.
Place the plastic kit container into the provided shipping envelope.
Requisition & Payment
Your kit has been prepaid. You DO NOT need to pay anything extra.
You must complete your requisition and chain of custody forms and send them back with your samples.
Since you pre-paid for your tests, you do not need to fill in the payment information on these forms.
Please ensure the name on your samples, requisition form, and Rupa order all match. You may be required to recollect your sample if they do not match.
Shipping
Ship your samples back to the lab within 48 hours of collection.
If you cannot ship your samples on the day of collection, place the urine specimen tube in the freezer until you can ship it.
Please write the date the urine sample was frozen on the test requisition form.
To prepare your samples for shipping,
Place the urine specimen tube into one of the biohazard bags with the absorbent pad.
Seal the biohazard bag.
Place the dust specimen tube into the other biohazard bag.
Seal the biohazard bag.
Place the completed chain of custody form into the outside pocket on the dust sample's biohazard bag.
Place the two biohazard bags into the test kit box.
Place the completed test requisition form into the test kit box.
Seal the box.
Place the test kit box into the provided prepaid mailer.
Seal the prepaid mailer.
Make a note of the tracking number on the return label so you can track your sample back to the lab.
Take your sample package to the nearest FedEx location.
DO NOT place your sample in a drop box.
Results
Results should be released to your provider 7-10 business days after samples are received at the lab. Rupa Health cannot guarantee processing time.
