Key Details 

  • You will be collecting urine, stool, hair, and serum samples. 
  • DO NOT collect your samples while menstruating
  • Collect your at-home samples (urine, stool, and hair) prior to your blood draw. 
  • Ship your samples all together, within 48 hours of collection. 
  • Samples should be shipped Monday - Wednesday only.

Preparation & Timing

  • You will be collecting urine, stool, hair, and serum samples. 
  • DO NOT collect your samples while menstruating. 

Preparing for Your Urine Test

  • Avoid the following foods and supplements for 48 hours prior to your urine collection. 
    • Apples (including juice & other apple products)
    • Grapes (including juice & other grape products)
    • Pears (including juice & other pear products)
    • Cranberries (including juice & other cranberry products)
    • Arabinogalactan 
    • Echinacea
    • Reishi mushrooms
    • Ribose supplements 
  • The night prior to urine collection 
    • Limit liquid intake starting at 6 pm.
  • The day of urine collection 
    • You will collect your sample upon waking.
    • DO NOT eat or drink prior to collecting your sample.

Preparing for Your Stool Test

  • You will collect samples on two separate days. 
    • Samples must be collected at least 12 hours apart.
    • Samples must be shipped within 7 days of the first collection.
  • Avoid the following foods and medications for 48 hours prior to collection.
    • Digestive enzymes
    • Antacids
    • Iron supplements
    • Vitamin C over 250 mg
    • Aspirin
    • Anti-inflammatories
    • Large amounts of meat
  • If you have trouble producing stool, you can use one of the following laxatives 24 hours prior to sample collection. 
    • Oral phosphate soda laxatives, such as Fleet
    • Magnesium citrate
    • Psyllium fiber
    • Enemas using distilled water only
  • Do NOT use suppositories or mineral oil prior to sample collection.

Preparing for Your Hair Test

  • DO NOT collect hair that has been treated in any of the following ways:
    • Dyed
    • Bleached
    • Permed
    • Otherwise chemically treated
  • Collect only head or pubic hair. 
    • DO NOT mix head and pubic hair together.

Preparing for Your Serum Test

  • Sample collection must be performed by a phlebotomist, Monday - Thursday only. 
    • You may need to pay a separate fee for phlebotomy.

  • Hydrate for 24-48 hours prior to your blood draw.

Collection Instructions

Urine Collection

These instructions are for the OAT, GPL-TOX, and Glyphosate tests.

  1. Collect your first morning urine in the provided collection cup. 
    1. Collect prior to eating or drinking. 
  2. Screw the collection cup lid on tightly.
  3. Write the following information on the collection cup.
    1. Patient's name
    2. Time of collection
    3. Date of collection
  4. Place the collection cup and provided gel pack into the freezer.
    1. The sample and gel pack should remain in the freezer for a minimum of 4 hours prior to shipping.
    2. Keep them in the freezer until ready to ship.

Stool Collection

These instructions are for the Comprehensive Stool Analysis.

Day 1

  1. Write the patient's name, the date of collection, and the time of collection on the following vials.
    1. WHITE-top vial
    2. 1 BLACK-top vial 
    3. Do not write on the "ID number" line. 
  2. Urinate prior to collection. 
  3. Collect stool in the collection tray. 
    1. Do not contaminate the stool with urine or water.
    2. It may help to put plastic wrap over the toilet and then place the collection container on top of the plastic. You could also collect your sample on the plastic wrap.
  4. Open the WHITE-top vial.
  5. Use the attached spoon to transfer the stool to the vial. 
    1. Use only the spoon attached to the WHITE-top vial. 
    2. Collect samples from several different areas of the stool specimen. 
    3. Fill at least 3/4 full. 
  6. Tightly seal the vial.
  7. Place the WHITE-top vial and the provided gel pack into the freezer. 
  8. Open the BLACK-top vial. 
    1. Do NOT touch or discard the preservative in the vial. 
  9. Use the attached spoon to transfer the stool into the vial.
    1. Use only the spoon attached to the BLACK-top vial. 
    2. Collect samples from several different areas of the stool specimen.
    3. Fill to the fill line. 
  10. Tightly seal the vial.
  11. Shake the BLACK-top vial vigorously for about 30 seconds. 
  12. Store the BLACK-top vial at room temperature.
    1. Do NOT freeze this vial. 

Day 2

  1. Write the patient's name, the date of collection, and the time of collection on the following vials.
    1. YELLOW-top vial
    2. 1 BLACK-top vial 
    3. Do not write on the "ID number" line. 
  2. Urinate prior to collection. 
  3. Collect stool in the collection tray. 
    1. Do not contaminate the stool with urine or water.
    2. It may help to put plastic wrap over the toilet and then place the collection container on top of the plastic. You could also collect your sample on the plastic wrap.
  4. Open the YELLOW-top vial.
    1. Do NOT touch or discard the preservative in the vial.
  5. Use the attached spoon to transfer the stool into the vial.
    1. Use only the spoon attached to the YELLOW-top vial.
    2. Collect samples from several different areas of the stool specimen.
    3. Fill to the fill line.
  6. Tightly seal the vial.
  7. Shake the YELLOW-top vial vigorously for about 30 seconds. 
  8. Store the YELLOW-top vial at room temperature.
    1. Do NOT freeze this vial. 
  9. Open the BLACK-top vial. 
    1. Do NOT touch or discard the preservative in the vial. 
  10. Use the attached spoon to transfer the stool into the vial.
    1. Use only the spoon attached to the BLACK-top vial. 
    2. Collect samples from several different areas of the stool specimen.
    3. Fill to the fill line. 
  11. Tightly seal the vial.
  12. Shake the BLACK-top vial vigorously for about 30 seconds. 
  13. Store the BLACK-top vial at room temperature.
    1. Do NOT freeze this vial

Hair Collection

These instructions are for the Metals Hair Test. 

  1. Set up the scale by bending the black tabs down to form a fulcrum.
  2. Place the scale on a level surface
  3. Use stainless steel scissors to cut your hair. 
    1. Collect only head or pubic hair.
    2. DO NOT mix head and pubic hair together.
  4. If you are using head hair, 
    1. Cut hair from the back of the head using stainless steel scissors. 
    2. Cut hair as close to the scalp as possible. 
    3. Go to step 6.
  5.  If you are using pubic hair, 
    1. Cut hair using stainless steel scissors.
    2. Cut hair as close to the skin as possible.
    3. Go to step 6. 
  6. As each piece of hair is cut, save only the 1 inch of hair closest to the skin. 
    1. Cut off and discard the rest.
  7. Place the saved hair on the scale. 
  8. Keep cutting hair and adding hair to the scale until it tips. 
    1. Cut hair from 5 or 6 areas around the scalp or pubic area. 
  9. Once the scale has tipped, remove the hair from the scale and put it in the plastic bag. 
  10. Repeat steps 3-9 to fill the scale for a second time. 
    1. You should tip the scale twice
  11. Seal the bag.
  12. Write the following information on the plastic bag.
    1. Patient's name
    2. Physician's name + "Rupa Health"
    3. Collection date

Serum Collection

These instructions are for the Advanced Cholesterol Profile, Copper + Zinc Profile, IgG Food MAP, and Vitamin D tests.

  1. Bring the following items with you to your blood draw appointment.
    1. Test kit 
    2. Completed test requisition form
    3. Urine sample
    4. Frozen ice pack
    5. Stool samples 
  2. The phlebotomist will collect, prepare, and ship your sample for you.

    2. Your test may come with additional vials. Please have the phlebotomist check the collection instructions and requisition form to determine the correct number of vials to draw.

Requisition & Payment

  • Your kit has been prepaid. You DO NOT need to pay anything extra.
  • Instructions on how to fill out your requisition can be found HERE.
    • Since you pre-paid for your tests, you do not need to fill in the payment information on any of these forms.
    • DO NOT fill out any information on gplforms.com.

Shipping

  • Ship your samples within 48 hours of collection, Monday - Wednesday only. 
  • Make a note of the tracking number on the return mailer so that you can track your sample back to the lab.
  • The phlebotomist will ship all of your samples together for you using the materials provided in the test kit.
    • Make sure to bring all of your samples with you to your blood draw.
  • To prepare your samples for shipping, 
    • Urine Sample
      • Place the collection cup into the biohazard zip-lock bag. 
      • Ensure the absorbent sheet is in the bag as well. 
      • Place the frozen gel pack and the sample into the silver thermo bag.
    • Stool Samples
      • Place the WHITE-top vial and frozen gel pack into the bubble wrap envelope.
      • Place the bubble wrap envelope into the cardboard box.
      • Place the YELLOW-top vial into the biohazard zip-lock bag.
      • Place both BLACK-top vials into the biohazard zip-lock bag.
      • Place the absorbent packing sheet into the biohazard zip-lock bag and seal it
    • Bring these samples with you to your blood draw.

Results

  • Results should be released to your provider 7-21 business days after samples are received at the lab. We cannot guarantee processing time. 
  • Your provider will notify you when your results are in and schedule a follow-up appointment for you to review them together. 
  • Your provider may choose to release your results to you. Rupa cannot release your results without provider authorization.
