The Comprehensive Stool Analysis measures various markers in the gastrointestinal system, including markers indicating digestive efficiency, absorption efficiency, and the presence of pathogens. It assists in the understanding and diagnosis of gastrointestinal disease.

Key Details

  • You must avoid certain medications prior to and during sample collection.

  • Wait at least 4 weeks after a colonoscopy or barium enema to collect your sample.

  • Do not collect while menstruating or actively bleeding from hemorrhoids.

  • The yellow top vial should be refrigerated until shipped.

  • The white top vial should be frozen overnight prior to shipping.

  • Ship samples as soon as possible, Monday - Friday only.

    • Do not leave your samples in a FedEx drop box.

Preparation & Timing

  • Wait at least 4 weeks after a colonoscopy or barium enema to collect your sample.

  • Avoid the following medications for 2 weeks prior to and during sample collection.

    • Antibiotics

    • Antiparasitics

    • Probiotic supplements

    • Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs)

    • Bismuth

  • Avoid the following medications for 2 days prior to and during sample collection.

    • Aspirin

    • NSAIDs

    • Digestive enzymes

    • Laxatives

    • Mineral oil

    • Castor oil

    • Glycerin enemas/suppositories

    • Activated charcoal

    • Betaine HCl

    • Antacids

    • Bentonite clay

  • Please consult your healthcare provider prior to discontinuing any medications.

  • Do not collect while menstruating.

  • Do not collect while actively bleeding from hemorrhoids.

Collection Instructions

  1. Write the patient's name, date of birth, and the date of collection on the sample vials.

  2. Urinate prior to collection.

  3. Put on the glove.

  4. Collect stool in the supplied collection container.

    1. Do not contaminate the stool with urine or water.

  5. Remove the cap from the WHITE top vial.

    1. This vial does not contain a liquid preservative.

  6. Use the attached spoon to transfer the stool into the vial.

    1. Collect from different areas of the sample.

  7. Add enough stool until it reaches the FILL LINE.

    1. Do NOT overfill.

  8. Screw the cap on tightly.

    1. Do NOT shake.

  9. Place the WHITE top vial into the separate bag provided and seal.

  10. Place the included Polar Ice Pack into the pouch on the back of the bag.

  11. Place the bag into the freezer. Freeze overnight.

  12. Remove the cap from the YELLOW top vial.

    1. If the liquid preservative in the vial does not reach the middle, call Doctor's Data customer service for assistance.

    2. Do NOT touch or discard the preservative in the vial.

  13. Use the attached spoon to transfer the stool into the vial.

    1. Collect from different areas of the sample.

  14. Add enough stool until the liquid and stool reach the FILL LINE.

    1. Do NOT overfill.

  15. Screw the cap on tightly.

  16. Shake the vial vigorously for 30 seconds.

  17. Place the YELLOW top vial in the ziplock bag.

  18. Place the ziplock bag in the cardboard test kit box.

  19. Place the test kit box in the refrigerator until you are ready to ship your samples.

  20. When you are ready to ship, remove the bag containing the WHITE top vial from the freezer.

  21. Remove the test kit box containing the YELLOW top vial from the refrigerator.

  22. Place the WHITE top vial bag and Polar Ice Pack in the test kit box.

  23. Place the completed test requisition form into the test kit box and close.

  24. Place the test kit box in the provided, prepaid FedEx Clinical Pak mailer.

  25. Ship as soon as possible after collection.

Requisition & Payment

  • Your kit has been prepaid. You DO NOT need to pay anything extra.

  • Instructions on how to fill out your requisition can be found HERE.

    • Since you pre-paid for your tests, you do not need to fill in the payment information on any of these forms.

Shipping

  • Ship as soon as possible after collection, Monday - Friday only.

    • Leave WHITE top vial in the freezer until ready to ship.

    • Leave the YELLOW top vial in the refrigerator until ready to ship.

  • To prepare your samples for shipping,

    • Remove the bag containing the WHITE top vial from the freezer.

    • Remove the test kit box containing the YELLOW top vial from the refrigerator.

    • Place the WHITE top vial bag and Polar Ice Pack in the test kit box.

    • Place the completed test requisition form into the test kit box and close.

    • Place the test kit box in the provided, prepaid FedEx Clinical Pak mailer.

    • Fill in the Billable Stamp.

    • Make a note of the tracking number so that you can track your samples back to the lab.

  • To schedule a FedEx pickup, call 1-800-463-3339.

    • When the automated greeting begins, say, “Schedule a pickup.”

    • When asked if your label has the word “Stamp” on it, say, “Yes.”

    • Let them know you are shipping using a Billable Stamp.

    • Your tracking number can be found on the Return Label.

  • Do NOT place your samples in a FedEx drop box.

Results

  • Results should be released to your provider 3-8 business days after samples are received at the lab. We cannot guarantee processing time.

  • Your provider will notify you when your results are in and schedule a follow-up appointment for you to review them together.
