The Vaginosis Profile is used to differentiate between bacterial vaginosis and vulvovaginal candidiasis.

Key Details

  • Store the collection swab at room temperature. DO NOT refrigerate, freeze, expose it to heat, or expose it to light.

  • Collect and ship Monday - Thursday only. Ship the SAME DAY as you collect.

  • DO NOT collect while menstruating.

  • Avoid birth control foams, birth control jellies, and douches for 48 hours prior to collection.

Preparation & Timing

    • Douches

Collection Instructions

  1. Open the plastic-wrapped BD Eswab Collection System.

  2. Remove the collection tube.

    1. Leave the swab in plastic.

  3. Remove the cap of the collection tube.

    1. DO NOT touch or discard the fluid in the tube.

  4. Place the cap on a clean, flat surface.

    1. DO NOT touch the inside of the cap.

  5. Place the opened collection tube upright on a flat surface.

  6. Remove the swab from the plastic.

  7. With one hand, carefully open the lips of the vagina.

  8. Insert the swab about two inches into the opening of the vagina.

  9. For 15-30 seconds, gently rotate the swab against the side of the vagina.

  10. Carefully withdraw the swab from the vagina.

  11. Insert the swab into the opened collection tube.

  12. Carefully break the swab at the scored line on the handle.

    1. DO NOT splash the contents of the tube.

  13. Discard the broken handle.

  14. Recap the collection tube tightly.

  15. Label the collection tube with the following information.

    1. Patient's full name

    2. Patient's date of birth

    3. Date of collection

  16. Place the collection tube into the ziplock bag.

  17. Place the ziplock bag in the styrofoam insulating shell.

  18. Close the styrofoam shell and place it into the cardboard shipping box.

  19. Complete the test requisition form.

Requisition & Payment

  • Your kit has been prepaid. You DO NOT need to pay anything extra.

  • Instructions on how to fill out your requisition can be found HERE.

    • Since you pre-paid for your tests, you do not need to fill in the payment information on any of these forms.

Shipping

  • Ship your sample the same day you collect, Monday - Thursday only.

  • To prepare your sample for shipping,

    • Place the collection tube into the ziplock bag.

    • Place the ziplock bag in the styrofoam insulating shell.

    • Close the styrofoam shell.

    • Place the styrofoam shell in the cardboard shipping box.

    • Place the completed test requisition form in the cardboard shipping box.

    • Place the cardboard shipping box in the FedEx Clinical Pak.

  • Make a note of your tracking number so that you can track your samples back to the lab.

  • Ship your sample using FedEx.

    • DO NOT place your sample in a FedEx drop box.

    • To schedule a FedEx pick-up, call 1-800-463-3339.

      • After the automated greeting, say, "Schedule a pick-up."

      • At the next prompt, say, "Schedule a pick-up with a Label or Stamp."

      • Say, "yes," when asked if the word "Stamp" is on the waybill.

      • You will then give your address information for the pick-up.

Results

  • Results should be released to your provider 3-8 business days after samples are received at the lab. We cannot guarantee processing time.

  • Your provider will notify you when your results are in and schedule a follow-up appointment for you to review them together.
