These instructions are for the Urine Essential Elements, Urine Toxic & Essential Elements, and Urine Toxic Metals tests. These tests measure the excretion of various essential elements and/or toxic metals in urine. They are used to analyze a patient's nutritional status or evaluate the efficacy of metal detoxification therapy. These instructions are for the random/first-morning void collection.

Key Details

  • Avoid fish and shellfish for 1 week prior to sample collection.

  • Stop all non-essential medications and dietary supplements for 48 hours prior to and during collection.

  • Collect your sample at least 96 hours after any MRI during which gadolinium-based media was administered.

  • Do not collect while menstruating.

  • Ship via FedEx as soon as possible, Monday - Friday only.

  • If you cannot ship the sample the same day you finish collection, refrigerate your sample until you ship it.

Preparation & Timing

  • Avoid fish and shellfish for 1 week prior to sample collection.

  • Avoid all non-essential medications and dietary supplements for 48 hours prior to and during collection.

    • DO NOT discontinue prescription medications unless advised by your healthcare practitioner.

  • Collect your sample at least 96 hours after any MRI during which gadolinium-based media was administered.

  • Do not collect while menstruating.

Collection Instructions

  1. Collect a single urination into the provided specimen collection cup.

    1. For random collection, collect any urine sample during the day.

    2. For first morning void (FMV) collection, collect your urine immediately upon waking.

  2. Pour urine into the supplied specimen vial.

    1. Fill urine to the top of the label.

  3. Tightly screw the cap onto the vial.

  4. Discard remaining urine.

  5. Fill in the "Collection Information" section on the requisition form.

    1. Make sure you mark "random" and write the time of day that you collected urine.

  6. Write the following information on the specimen vial.

    1. Patient's name

    2. Patient's date of birth

    3. Date of collection

  7. Place the specimen vial into the ziplock bag.

  8. Place the ziplock bag into the cardboard kit box.

  9. Place the completed test requisition form into the cardboard kit box.

Requisition & Payment

  • Your kit has been prepaid. You DO NOT need to pay anything extra.

  • Instructions on how to fill out your requisition can be found HERE.

    • Since you pre-paid for your tests, you do not need to fill in the payment information on any of these forms.

Shipping

  • Ship your sample as soon as possible.

    • If you cannot ship your sample the same day you finish collection, refrigerate the specimen until you ship the test kit back to the lab.

  • Ship samples Monday - Friday only.

  • To prepare your samples for shipping,

    • Place the specimen vial into the ziplock bag.

    • Place the ziplock bag and completed requisition form into the cardboard kit box.

    • Place the cardboard kit box into the FedEx Clinical Pak.

    • Fill out the Billable Stamp.

    • Make a note of the tracking number so that you can track your sample back to the lab.

  • Ship using FedEx.

    • DO NOT place your sample in a FedEx drop box.

    • You can schedule a FedEx pickup by calling 1-800-463-3339.

      • At the automated greeting, say, "schedule a pickup."

      • At the next prompt, say, "schedule a pickup with a label or stamp."

      • You will be asked if the waybill says "stamp" - say, "yes."

      • Then give your address information.

Results

  • Results should be released to your provider 3-8 business days after samples are received at the lab. We cannot guarantee processing time.

  • Your provider will notify you when your results are in and schedule a follow-up appointment for you to review them together.
