The Creatinine Clearance Profile is used to analyze renal function.

Key Details

  • Blood sample collection must be performed by a phlebotomist.

    • Information about scheduling a blood draw can be found HERE.

    • You may need to pay a separate fee for phlebotomy.

  • You will collect a 24-hour urine sample.

  • Do not collect while menstruating.

  • Your blood should be drawn in the same period as your urine collection.

  • You must avoid certain medications for 48 hours prior to and during the collection period.

  • Ship your samples Monday - Friday only.

Preparation & Timing

  • Blood sample collection must be performed by a phlebotomist.

  • Your blood should be drawn in the same period as your urine collection.

  • Do not collect while menstruating.

  • Avoid the following medications for 48 hours prior to and during the collection period.

    • Cephalosporin

    • Non-essential medications

    • Dietary supplements

    • Do NOT discontinue prescription medications without consulting your healthcare provider.

  • Avoid excessive exercise during the urine collection period.

Collection Instructions

Urine Collection

  1. You will collect your urine for 24 hours.

  2. At the beginning of the collection period, urinate but do not collect it.

  3. Collect each of your urinations in the 24-hour period.

  4. For each collection, collect your urine in the provided specimen cup.

  5. Pour the urine into the orange collection container.

  6. Place the orange container in the refrigerator.

  7. Repeat steps 4-6 for each urination during the 24-hour collection period.

  8. At the end of the collection period, place the orange collection container on a level surface.

  9. Read the volume from the markings on the container.

  10. Fill out the requisition form with your information, the collection period, and the total volume collected.

  11. Shake the orange container for at least 30 seconds to mix the urine.

  12. Pour the urine into the specimen vial.

    1. Fill up to the top of the label.

  13. Tighten the vial cap securely.

  14. Write the following information on the specimen vial.

    1. Patient's name

    2. Patient's date of birth

    3. Date of collection

  15. Place the specimen vial into the ziplock bag.

  16. Place the bag in the cardboard shipping box.


Blood Collection

  1. Bring the following items with you to your blood draw appointment.

    1. Complete test kit

    2. Urine sample

    3. Completed test requisition form

  2. The phlebotomist will collect, prepare, and ship your sample for you.

Requisition & Payment

  • Your kit has been prepaid. You may need to pay a separate fee for phlebotomy.

  • Instructions on how to fill out your requisition can be found HERE.

    • Since you pre-paid for your tests, you do not need to fill in the payment information on any of these forms.

Shipping

  • The phlebotomist will collect, prepare, and ship your sample for you.

  • Samples should be shipped as soon as possible after collection.

  • Samples should be shipped Monday - Friday only.

Results

  • Results should be released to your provider 3-8 business days after samples are received at the lab. We cannot guarantee processing time.

  • Your provider will notify you when your results are in and schedule a follow-up appointment for you to review them together.
