Preparation & Timing

  • Collect your saliva and urine samples the day before your blood draw.

  • DO NOT take steroids for 72 hours before and during the sample collection period.

  • DO NOT eat or drink anything but water for 1 hour before each saliva collection.

  • Your first saliva collection should be done within 30 minutes of waking.

  • Blood collection must be performed by a phlebotomist, Monday - Thursday ONLY.

  • Fast for 12 hours before your blood draw.


Collection Instructions

Saliva Collection

Collection Schedule

  1. Follow the collection schedule above.

  2. DO NOT eat or drink anything but water for 1 hour before sample collection.

  3. Rinse your mouth with water immediately before collecting the sample.

  4. Remove the cap from one tube.

  5. Remove the cotton plug.

    1. DO NOT remove the suspended insert.

  6. Place the cotton plug in your mouth.

  7. Gently chew the cotton plug for 1-2 minutes.

    1. Chew until the cotton is fully saturated.

  8. Place the cotton plug back inside the tube.

  9. Write the following information on the sample tube using a permanent marker.

    1. Patient's first and last name

    2. Patient's date of birth

    3. Date of collection

  10. Place the sample tube into the refrigerator.

  11. Repeat for each of the four sample collections.

Urine Collection

  1. You can collect your sample at any time of the day.

  2. Collect urine in the provided collection cup.

  3. Use the provided pipette to transfer 5 mL of urine to the yellow top transfer tube.

  4. Write the following information on the tube using a permanent marker.

    1. Patient's first and last name

    2. Patient's date of birth

    3. Date of collection

  5. Place the yellow top transfer tube into one biohazard bag.

  6. Place one biohazard bag into the freezer.

    1. Leave the sample in the freezer until you are ready to ship your samples.

  7. Complete your requisition form.

Blood Collection

  1. Read this article to prepare for your blood draw.

  2. Freeze the provided ice pack for at least 12 hours before your blood draw.

  3. Bring the following items with you to your blood draw appointment.

    1. Test kit

    2. Frozen ice pack

    3. Saliva samples

    4. Urine sample

    5. Completed test requisition form

  4. The phlebotomist will collect, prepare, and ship your sample for you.


Requisition & Payment

  • Your kit has been prepaid. You DO NOT need to pay anything extra.

  • You must complete your requisition form and send it back with your samples.

    • Since you pre-paid for your tests, you do not need to fill in the payment information on any of these forms.


Shipping

  • Samples should be shipped Monday - Thursday only.

  • The phlebotomist will ship your sample for you using the materials provided in the test kit.

  • To prepare your samples for shipping,

    • Place your completed requisition form into the outer pocket of a biohazard bag.

    • Ensure all tubes are properly labeled.

    • Place the saliva samples into the insulated shipping envelope.

    • Place the urine sample into the insulated shipping envelope.

    • Place the frozen ice pack into the insulated shipping envelope.

    • Place the shipping envelope into the kit box.

  • Bring the kit box and the rest of the supplies to your blood draw.

  • Make a note of your tracking number so that you can track your sample back to the lab.


Results

  • Results should be released to your provider 7-14 business days after samples are received at the lab. Rupa Health cannot guarantee processing time.
