The Plasma Amino Acids test measures the levels of amino acids in your blood. Imbalanced amino acids can cause a variety of health conditions.

Key Details

  • Sample collection must be performed by a phlebotomist, Monday - Friday only.

    • You may need to pay a separate fee for phlebotomy.

  • You must fast overnight prior to sample collection.

  • You must avoid certain foods and medications for 48 hours prior to sample collection.

Preparation & Timing

  • Sample collection must be performed by a phlebotomist, Monday - Friday only.

  • You must fast overnight prior to sample collection.

  • Avoid the following foods and medications for 48 hours prior to sample collection.

    • NutraSweet®

    • Equal®

    • Any artificial sweetener containing aspartame

    • Amino acid dietary supplements

    • Amino acid metabolites (ex: GABA, 5-HTP, Creatine)

    • Consult your healthcare practitioner prior to discontinuing any prescription medications.

  • Freeze the provided ice pack for at least 6 hours prior to sample collection.

Collection Instructions

  1. Bring the following items with you to your blood draw appointment.

    1. Test kit

    2. Frozen ice pack

    3. Completed test requisition form

  2. The phlebotomist will collect, prepare, and ship your sample for you.

Requisition & Payment

  • Your kit has been prepaid. You may need to pay a separate fee for phlebotomy.

  • Instructions on how to fill out your requisition can be found HERE.

    • Since you pre-paid for your tests, you do not need to fill in the payment information on any of these forms.

Shipping

  • The phlebotomist will ship your sample for you using the materials provided in the test kit.

  • Samples should be shipped Monday - Friday only.

Results

  • Results should be released to your provider 3-8 business days after samples are received at the lab. We cannot guarantee processing time.

  • Your provider will notify you when your results are in and schedule a follow-up appointment for you to review them together.
