The Implant Metals Profile tests the circulating blood levels of the six metals that are most commonly associated with orthopedic and dental metal prostheses or implants.

Key Details

  • Sample collection must be performed by a phlebotomist, Monday - Friday only.

    • Information about scheduling a blood draw can be found HERE.

    • You may need to pay a separate fee for phlebotomy.

  • You must avoid certain medications for 72 hours prior to your blood draw.

  • Fast overnight prior to your blood draw.

Preparation & Timing

  • Sample collection must be performed by a phlebotomist, Monday - Friday only.

  • Avoid the following medications for 72 hours prior to your blood draw.

    • Non-essential medications

    • Dietary supplements containing minerals

    • Do NOT discontinue prescription medications without consulting your healthcare provider.

  • Fast overnight prior to your blood draw.

Collection Instructions

  1. Bring the entire test kit (including the cardboard shipping box), and completed test requisition form to your blood draw appointment.

  2. The phlebotomist will collect, prepare, and ship your sample for you.

Requisition & Payment

  • Your kit has been prepaid. You may need to pay a separate fee for phlebotomy.

  • Instructions on how to fill out your requisition can be found HERE.

    • Since you pre-paid for your tests, you do not need to fill in the payment information on any of these forms.

Shipping

  • The phlebotomist will ship your sample for you using the materials provided in the test kit.

  • Samples should be shipped Monday - Friday only.

Results

  • Results should be released to your provider 3-8 business days after samples are received at the lab. We cannot guarantee processing time.

  • Your provider will notify you when your results are in and schedule a follow-up appointment for you to review them together.
