The CardioION Profile is a collection of nutritional tests that analyze a variety of nutrition factors and identify risk factors for cardiovascular disease.

Key Details

  • You will collect two samples - blood and urine.

  • You must collect your urine sample before your blood sample.

  • Blood sample collection must be performed by a phlebotomist.

    • Information about scheduling a blood draw can be found HERE.

    • You may need to pay a separate fee for phlebotomy.

    • Rupa Health recommends getting your blood drawn and samples shipped Monday - Thursday only to avoid shipment delays.

  • Schedule your blood draw for the morning.

  • Decrease fluid intake for 24 hours prior to urine collection.

  • Fast after 9:00 pm the night prior to your blood draw.

Preparation & Timing

  • Sample collection must be performed by a phlebotomist.

    • Information about scheduling a blood draw can be found HERE.

    • Rupa Health recommends getting your blood drawn and samples shipped Monday - Thursday only to avoid shipment delays.

  • Do not collect the urine sample while menstruating.

  • Continue taking all nutritional supplements and medications.

  • Decrease fluid intake for 24 hours prior to urine collection.

    • Restrict intake to three 8 oz glasses (or less).

    • Drink no more than 8 oz of fluid after 8:00 pm the evening before urine collection.

  • Do not eat or drink anything other than water after 9:00 pm the night before your blood draw.

Collection Instructions

Urine Collection

  1. Write the following information on all tubes using a permanent marker.

    1. First and last name

    2. Date of birth

    3. Gender

    4. Date of collection

  2. Empty your bladder before going to bed at night.

    1. Do not collect this urine.

  3. If you wake to urinate during the night, collect this urine into a clean container (not included).

  4. Collect first morning urine into a clean container (not included).

    1. Use the same container you used to collect during the night.

  5. Use a pipette to transfer urine into the clear cap plastic vial.

    1. Do not dispose of or touch the preservative.

  6. Fill the vial to the 12 ml mark.

    1. Do not overfill.

  7. Tightly screw the cap back onto the vial.

  8. Dispose of any remaining urine.

  9. Freeze the specimen vial and the provided ice pack.

  10. Complete the test registration (instructions HERE).

Blood Collection

  1. Bring the following items with you to your blood draw appointment.

    1. Test kit

    2. Frozen urine specimen

    3. Frozen ice pack

    4. Completed activation card

  2. The phlebotomist will collect, prepare, and ship your sample for you.

Requisition & Payment

  • Your kit has been prepaid. You may need to pay a separate fee for phlebotomy.

  • Instructions on how to fill out your requisition can be found HERE.

    • Since you pre-paid for your tests, you do not need to fill in the payment information on any of these forms.

Shipping

  • Make a note of the tracking number on the return label so you can track your samples back to the lab.

  • The phlebotomist will ship both your urine and blood samples for you using the materials provided in the test kit.

Results

  • Results should be released to your provider 7-21 business days after samples are received at the lab. We cannot guarantee processing time.

  • Your provider will notify you when your results are in and schedule a follow-up appointment for you to review them together.

  • Your provider may choose to release your results to you. Rupa cannot release your results without provider authorization.
