The Essential & Metabolic Fatty Acids test is an add-on to the Metabolomix+.
Key Details
Do not collect while menstruating.
Avoid extreme diets and over-consuming any one food for 24 hours prior to sample collection.
You must fast overnight prior to sample collection.
You must avoid certain activities on the morning of sample collection.
Collect your sample immediately upon waking.
Collect your samples all on the same day.

Preparation & Timing
Do not collect while menstruating.
4 days before the test
Your physician may want you to discontinue nonessential supplements and medications.
Consult your physician before discontinuing any medications.
24 hours before collection
Eat your usual diet.
Avoid over-consuming any one food or consuming any extreme diet.
Limit fluid intake to 48 oz over the whole 24 hour period.
The night before collection
Fast overnight. You may drink water during the fast.
The morning of collection
Collect sample immediately upon waking.
You will collect all of your samples on the same day.
Collection Instructions
Write the following information on the labels.
Your date of birth
The date of collection
Attach a completed label to the blood spot card.
Wash your hands with warm water for a few minutes.
Dry your hands with a clean towel.
To improve circulation (which will make your collection easier!):
Hold your hand lower than heart level and gently massage the entire length of the middle finger on your non-dominant hand for 30 seconds.
Hang your arm down and gently shake your fingers for a few seconds.
Clean the tip of your middle finger (on your non-dominant hand) with the included alcohol pad.
Remove the cap from the lancet.
Press the tip of the lancet firmly against the side of your sterilized finger.
Press until you hear the click.
Gently massage the entire length of your pricked finger to form blood drops.
Touch the tip of the drop to a circle on the collection card.
DO NOT smear the blood drop.
DO NOT touch the card with your finger.
Fill ALL circles FULLY.
Blood should saturate through both sides of the card.
If you cannot get sufficient blood, repeat steps 3-11 with the second lancet and another finger.
Bandage your finger.
Allow the collection card to dry for at least 24 hours.
Complete the test registration (instructions HERE).
Please ensure that the name on the registration matches the name on your Rupa order EXACTLY. If it does not match, you may need to recollect your samples.
Once the card is dry, place it in the resealable plastic bag.
Ensure the desiccant/moisture-absorbent pack is in the bag.

Your kit has been prepaid. You DO NOT need to pay anything extra.

Results
Results should be released to your provider 7-21 business days after samples are received at the lab. We cannot guarantee processing time.
Your provider will notify you when your results are in and schedule a follow-up appointment for you to review them together.
