The Adrenal Profile provides a baseline assessment of adrenal hormone metabolism.

Key Details

  • If you are a man, child, or non-menstruating woman, you can collect your sample any day.

  • If you are a menstruating woman, you must collect at a specific time in your cycle.

  • Avoid vaginal hormones for at least 3 days prior to urine collection.

  • Consult your healthcare practitioner regarding timing if you take steroids.

Preparation & Timing

  • If you are a man, child, or non-menstruating woman, you can collect on any day of the month.

  • If you are a menstruating woman,

    • Regular cycle: Collect on Day 19, 20, or 21 of your cycle.

    • Irregular cycle: Collect 5 days before your period will start.

    • Unpredictable cycle: Collect any day when not bleeding.

  • Avoid vaginal hormones for at least 3 days prior to urine collection.

  • If you take steroids, consult your healthcare practitioner regarding timing.

  • If you take hormones in the morning, take them after your first morning collection.

  • If you take hormones in the evening, take them after your final collection.

  • Do not eat, drink anything but water, or take vitamins, supplements, or medications until after the first urine collection.

    • Follow the directions of your healthcare practitioner regarding medications and supplements.

  • Do not drink more than 8 oz of water in the hour prior to each collection.

Collection Instructions

Collection Timing

  1. Sample 1: Immediately upon waking.

    1. Collect prior to eating, drinking anything but water, and taking medications, supplements (including hormones), or vitamins.

    2. If you take hormones in the morning, take your dose after this first collection.

  2. Sample 2: Collect your second urination of the day (about 2 hours after the first collection).

    1. Limit fluid intake to 8 oz in the hour before collection.

  3. Sample 3: Collect just before dinner.

    1. Limit fluid intake to 8 oz in the hour before collection.

  4. Sample 4: Collect just before bedtime.

    1. Limit fluid intake to 8 oz in the hour before collection.

    2. If you take hormones at night, take your dose after this final collection.

    3. You may resume vaginal hormones after collecting sample 4.

  5. *NOTE* If you miss a collection, collect the sample at the designated time the following day.

Collection Instructions

  1. Write your name and the date and time of collection on a collection card.

  2. Open the cover on the collection card by folding it back, away from the filter paper.

    1. Do NOT touch the filter paper.

  3. Collect your urine in a clean cup.

  4. Dip the filter paper in the urine up to the top black dash line.

    1. Make sure the paper is fully saturated.

  5. *NOTE* You can also saturate the filter paper by urinating directly onto it.

  6. Hang or tape the collection card in a secure place to dry.

    1. Do NOT let anything touch the filter paper.

  7. Let the card dry for at least 6 hours.

  8. Repeat steps 1-7 for each of the four collections.

  9. Once the cards are completely dry, refold them.

  10. Place the cards into the baggie.

  11. Seal the baggie.

  12. Place the baggie and the completed test requisition form back into the test kit box.

  13. Place the test kit box into the provided, prepaid envelope.

Requisition & Payment

  • Your kit has been prepaid. You DO NOT need to pay anything extra.

  • Instructions on how to fill out your requisition can be found HERE.

    • Since you pre-paid for your tests, you do not need to fill in the payment information on any of these forms.

Shipping

  • To prepare your samples for shipping,

    • Place the COMPLETELY DRY, folded sample cards into the baggie and seal.

    • Place the baggie into the test kit box.

    • Place the completed test requisition form into the test kit box.

    • Place the test kit box into the provided, prepaid envelope.

    • Attach the provided prepaid label.

  • Make a note of the tracking number so that you can track your samples back to the lab.

Results

  • Results should be released to your provider 3-5 business days after samples are received at the lab. We cannot guarantee processing time.

  • Your provider will notify you when your results are in and schedule a follow-up appointment for you to review them together.
