The Vaginal BiomeFx test determines the abundance of various microorganisms that affect your vaginal microbiome and thus overall vaginal.

Preparation & Timing

  • DO NOT collect while menstruating.

  • If you are pregnant, please consult your healthcare provider before collecting your sample.


Collection Instructions

  1. Complete the online test registration and consent forms.

    1. Both forms will be emailed to you from Microbiome. Please complete these forms so that your sample can be processed at the laboratory. Failure to complete the registration and consent forms may result in delayed results or a recollection.

  2. Wash your hands with soap and water.

  3. Dry your hands with a clean towel.

  4. Open the pouch and remove the tube.

  5. Place the tube on a clean surface.

  6. Carefully grab the shaft of the swab and remove it from the package.

    1. DO NOT touch the cotton tip of the swab to any surface, including your fingers.

  7. Hold the swab at or above the breakpoint on the shaft.

  8. Get into one of the following positions for collection.

    1. Stand with your legs apart.

    2. Sit with your legs wide apart.

  9. Using your free hand, hold back the skin covering the opening of your vagina.

  10. Insert the swab 1-2 inches into the vagina.

    1. It may help to put one foot up on a raised surface.

  11. Gently rotate the swab around the vaginal walls for 30 seconds.

    1. DO NOT use excessive pressure or bend the swab while collecting.

  12. Remove the swab from your vagina.

  13. Open the collection tube.

    1. DO NOT touch or discard the liquid in the tube.

    2. DO NOT set the swab down.

  14. Place the swab in the collection tube.

  15. Snap the swab shaft off at the breakpoint. The swab tip should remain in the tube of liquid.

  16. Seal the tube tightly.

  17. Discard the packaging and the swab handle.

  18. Take a picture of your 14-digit sample ID (on the sample collection tube). You may need this number if there is an issue with your sample.

  19. Place the collection tube into the biohazard bag.


Requisition & Payment

  • Your kit has been prepaid. You DO NOT need to pay anything extra.

You must register your test online and complete the emailed consent form.

Failure to complete these forms may result in delayed results or a recollection.

  • Take a picture of your 14-digit sample ID (on the sample collection tube). You may need this number if there is an issue with your sample.


Shipping

  • Ship your sample within 7 days of collection.

  • If your kit was ordered before August 2, 2024,

    • Place the collection tube into the biohazard bag.

    • Seal the bag.

    • Place the biohazard bag into the provided return envelope.

    • Seal the return envelope.

    • Place the provided, prepaid return label onto the envelope.

  • If your kit was ordered on or after August 2, 2024,

    • Place the collection tube into the biohazard bag.

    • Seal the bag.

    • Place the biohazard bag into the the kit box.

    • Seal the kit box.

  • Make a note of the tracking number on the return label so that you can track your sample back to the lab.

  • Take your sample to the nearest USPS office to ship.

    • DO NOT place your sample in a USPS drop box.


Results

  • Results should be released to your provider 2 to 3 weeks after the sample is received at the lab. Rupa Health cannot guarantee processing time.
