Preparation & Timing

  • Avoid the antibiotics for 4 weeks before sample collection.

    • DO NOT discontinue prescription medications without consulting your healthcare provider.

  • Avoid probiotic supplements for 2 weeks before sample collection.

    • DO NOT discontinue prescription medications without consulting your healthcare provider.

  • Avoid antifungals for 3 days before sample collection.

    • DO NOT discontinue prescription medications without consulting your healthcare provider.

  • Avoid the following medications for 2 days before sample collection.

    • Digestive enzymes

    • Mineral oil

    • Castor oil

    • Other laxatives

    • Antacids

    • Aspirin

    • Substances containing barium

    • Substances containing bismuth


Collection Instructions

  1. Write the following information on the WHITE-top and YELLOW-top tubes.

    1. Patient's full name

    2. Patient's date of birth

    3. Date of collection

  2. Urinate before collection.

  3. Wash your hands with soap and water for 20 seconds.

  4. Collect stool in the supplied collection container.

    1. DO NOT contaminate the stool with urine or water.

    2. TIP: It may help to put plastic wrap over the toilet and then place the collection container on top of the plastic. You could also collect your stool on the plastic wrap.

  5. Wipe as normal.

  6. Lay a piece of soiled toilet paper on a clean surface.

  7. Open the swab collection tube by twisting and pulling.

  8. Lightly touch the swab tip to the soiled toilet paper.

    1. You only need a slight dab of stool on the swab.

    2. DO NOT touch the swab with any unsoiled toilet paper.

  9. Place the swab back in the tube.

    1. Make sure you hear a CLICK.

  10. Place the swab tube into the USPS mailer.

  11. Put on the glove.

  12. Remove the cap from the WHITE-top tube.

    1. This tube does not contain a liquid preservative.

  13. Use the attached spoon to transfer stool from different areas of the sample into the tube.

  14. Add stool until it reaches the FILL LINE.

    1. DO NOT overfill.

  15. Screw the cap on tightly.

    1. DO NOT shake.

  16. Place the WHITE-top tube into one of the biohazard bags.

  17. Remove the cap from the YELLOW-top tube.

    1. If the liquid preservative in the tube does not reach the middle, reach out to Rupa Health via the chat in your patient portal.

    2. DO NOT touch or discard the preservative in the tube.

  18. Use the attached spoon to transfer stool from different areas of the sample into the tube.

  19. Add enough stool until the liquid and stool reach the FILL LINE.

    1. DO NOT overfill.

  20. Screw the cap on tightly.

  21. Shake the tube vigorously for 30 seconds.

  22. Place the YELLOW-top tube into the other biohazard bag.

  23. Place the biohazard bag with the YELLOW-top tube into the cardboard test kit box.

  24. Place the test kit box into the refrigerator until you are ready to ship your samples.

  25. Place the Polar Ice Pack into the pouch on the back of the bag with the WHITE-top tube.

  26. Place the bag with the WHITE-top tube into the freezer. Freeze overnight.

  27. Make a note of the kit ID. This ID can be found on your test kit box and the sample tubes.

  28. Complete the test requisition and registration.


Requisition & Payment

  • Your kit has been prepaid. You DO NOT need to pay anything extra.

  • Make a note of the kit ID. This ID can be found on your test kit box and the sample tubes.

  • You must complete your requisition form and send it back with your samples.

  • You must also complete the online kit registration.


Shipping

  • Ship your samples Monday - Wednesday ONLY.

  • To prepare your swab sample for shipping,

    • Place the swab collection tube into the provided USPS mailer.

    • Seal the USPS mailer.

  • To prepare your other samples for shipping,

    • Remove the bag containing the WHITE-top tube from the freezer.

    • Remove the test kit box containing the YELLOW-top tube from the refrigerator.

    • Place the biohazard bags and Polar Ice Pack into the test kit box.

    • Place the completed test requisition form into the test kit box.

    • Seal the test kit box.

    • Place the test kit box into the provided FedEx Clinical Pak.

    • Seal the FedEx Clinical Pak.

    • Place the label on the FedEx Clinical Pak.

  • Make a note of the tracking numbers on the return mailers so that you can track your samples back to the labs.

  • Take your samples to the nearest FedEx and USPS locations.

    • DO NOT place your samples in a drop box.


Results

  • Results should be released to your provider approximately 4 weeks after samples are received at the labs. Rupa Health cannot guarantee processing time.
