Preparation & Timing

  • If you are pregnant, consult your healthcare provider before taking this test.

  • DO NOT collect your sample while menstruating.

  • Avoid the antibiotics for 4 weeks before sample collection.

    • DO NOT discontinue prescription medications without consulting your healthcare provider.

  • Avoid probiotic supplements for 5 days before sample collection.

    • DO NOT discontinue prescription medications without consulting your healthcare provider.

  • Avoid the following medications for 24 hours before sample collection.

    • Vaginal suppositories

    • Vaginal creams

    • Vaginal inserts

  • DO NOT have sex for 24 hours before sample collection.


Collection Instructions

  1. Wash your hands with soap and water for 20 seconds.

  2. Remove the tube from the packaging.

  3. Place the tube upright on a clean surface.

  4. Carefully grab the handle of the swab and remove it from the package.

    1. DO NOT touch the cotton tip of the swab to any surface, including your fingers.

  5. Get into one of the following positions for collection.

    1. Stand with your legs apart.

    2. Sit with your legs wide apart.

  6. Using your free hand, hold back the skin covering the opening of your vagina.

  7. Insert the swab 1-2 inches into the vagina.

    1. It may help to put one foot up on a raised surface.

  8. Gently rotate the swab around the vaginal walls for 20 seconds.

  9. Remove the swab from your vagina.

  10. Open the collection tube.

    1. DO NOT set the swab down.

  11. Place the swab in the collection tube.

  12. Snap the swab shaft off at the breakpoint.

  13. Seal the tube tightly.

  14. Press the cap to release the liquid preservative into the tube.

  15. Place the tube into the biohazard bag.

  16. Place the biohazard bag into the USPS mailer.

  17. Make a note of the kit ID. This ID can be found on your test kit box and the sample tubes.

  18. Complete the test registration.


Requisition & Payment

  • Your kit has been prepaid. You DO NOT need to pay anything extra.

  • Make a note of the kit ID. This ID can be found on your test kit box and the sample tubes.

  • You must also complete the online kit registration.


Shipping

  • Ship your sample via USPS within 5 days of collection.

  • To prepare your sample for shipping,

    • Place the sample tube into the biohazard bag.

    • Place the biohazard bag into the USPS mailer.

    • Seal the USPS mailer.

  • Make a note of the tracking number on the return mailer so that you can track your sample back to the lab.

  • Take your sample to the nearest USPS location.

    • DO NOT place your sample in a drop box.


Results

  • Results should be released to your provider approximately 4 weeks after your sample is received at the lab. Rupa Health cannot guarantee processing time.
